Sorry, Gary.
I had the opportunity to walk quite a bit of the trail during trail work yesterday. It was still pretty soggy. The one poacher that I saw had a muddy bike. Then, it rained pretty hard here again last night.
I assume you already know the lecture about riding wet trails.
John and another crew is out there today. If it is rideable, he will know right away and open the trail (and post). Hopefully today's sun and wind will help.

Check MORC before spending a lot of travel miles. On this note, let's make sure we keep trail conditions updated as often as possible so this doesn't happen to many people. 60 miles to not get to ride is no fun at all.

A line of pretty good thunderstorms moved through the metro late yesterday evening, so the drying that happened yesterday was pretty much negated. I know that the Lebanon Hills Trail Conditions thread contained information of the closure last night, but you may not have thought to look if it didn't rain by you.
I feel your pain. Many a time I've been to the river bottoms and had to turn around because of mud. The good news here is that people like you decide not to ride when the trail is closed - thank you.

So stick to the hiking trails after a rain and give the bike trails a day or two. If you really want to learn why we keep the bike trails closed, come out to trail work on Tuesday and I will edjimicate ya.
And yes.. please do check the web site. If you see, I posted regular updates about the trail and kept the conditions updated. Anyone on the web site should know to check these before heading out to the trail. Sorry you drove all that way but thanks for not poaching the trail when you did get there. Thats more than many others would have done.

I just learned how important it is to search these threads from top to bottom after any "rain" day, cause trails may be closed.

Where do you live? I live in the sticks and can still get to a trail with less than 60 miles round trip, on saturdays I can get to two trails in about 30 miles.
Which reminds me of a question, is the evil wastefullness of my fossil fuel consumption offset by the fact that I am driving to go biking? Maybe this one is better suited for the NB forum. Might have to bring it up later.

Long Lake as in New Brighton? Sorry bro, but that's ALL SAND. That place drains super fast because of that. Leb / Wirth and other southerly trails are not on the giant sand flat that is the northern metro. It's just the way it is. When you get solid rain for 48+ hours and then again 16 hours later, and have temps only in the 60s, $hit just gets soggy, it happens, it's May in Minne, expect it.
Thanks for not riding on the wet trails tho, that was cool.

It is really impressive when a person goes a long way to get to a trail and still stays out. I have heard many people suggest that after driving a long way they have earned the right to ride regardless. (in fact I think Ted saw a church group out at Leb last year riding on closed trails that used that excuse!) I know I'd be pretty upset if I drove up to Hillside only to find it closed... the temptation would be there for sure...
...must... follow... rules... turn car.. around... UUHhhhhhh... ;)

Yeah, you gotta give credit where credit's due. Yelling at people on the forums about how the trails are closed and saying "the trail in my neighborhood is fine, why aren't yours?" is pretty off-base. But, you gotta hand it to Gary for not riding and showing respect for the trail, even though we didn't feel respect for us. We'll get over it. :)

You may see me, but we (Chris and I) are riding with some newbie work buddies, so don't get too excited about going fast if you want to ride with us. Hope to see you out there either way.

Shad, I'll try to get there around 5. I'll throw in my toolbox, which has a pedal wrench. Please lose it back into my toolbox when you are done.
