It has been raining quite a bit and the trail will probably be closed Tuesday, but we're going to keep on working! We will either still meet in the parking lot, or go over to the Galaxie side and walk in from there. Stay tuned here for directions. (we'll probably leave someone at the regular lot just in case)
We will either start on the 2nd re-route, or continue working on the existing one and finish up the hand-built sections, the log mountain, and work behind the machine if it is out there as planned.
More info soon.. what a great chance to get out after all this wet weather...

Hopefully I will be recouped from the Ironman to get out there. I'll sharpen the axe just in case :)

You are definitely the axe king thats for sure.
For those that were not out there, the chainsaw threw its chain when we were about 98% done. (and I had the wrong tool to fix it) Unfortunately we had 2 rather large solid oak logs to cut through. Gabe gets the award for hacking through them with the axe like they were butter...

I'll dig out my mud boots and see everyone tuesday.
Where, precisely, is the galaxie entrance. I'm not familar with that entrance.

Ok, because the lot is closed we're going to meet over on the Galaxie entrance side. For those that have never been there, you can park on either side of the road.
Its basically on the cross between Safari Trail and Galaxie Ave. You can take Covingtong Ln. (just north of Leb) all the way over to Galaxie or get there using the map:
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&country=US&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=&addtohistory=&cat=&address=4900+Galaxie+Ave&city=Eagan&state=MN&zipcode=
We'll post a map or someone at the parking lot entrance as well just in case.

Tonights plans will be to do some more clearing work on our 2nd re-route project! This is a small are near what we call the bypass trail (slow climb up before the expert loop area) It will be important to clear this out as we have machines coming in Wed. to start working on our re-routes.
It should be drying out now, but it might be slightly damp within the trees so plan accordingly.
Don't forget we're meeting on the Galaxie side (see directions in other post)
Hope to see ya'll there!

Note:
There's a chance (allegedly a good chance) of thunderstorms tonight! I think I'll ride my motorcycle again!:D
Just a heads up that we should probably be watching for signs of lightning and impending doom.

We will definitely watch the weather and vacate if necessary. I think we might get lucky and have this next one pass us by. (crossing fingers)
We will have a quick escape on the Galaxie side if necessary.

Sorry for the no show. My daughters sick . I'm kinda feeling the effects of the ironman. Hope you had enough people on hand to get stuff done.
I'll be back swinging the axe next week.

When Tim lays out trails, he pays strict attention to IMBA rules and his inclinometer. However, this only gives a rough estimate as to where the trail should go. After that, there are certain heuristics that come into play.
For Tim's keen sense of trail layout, this generally means "Find the biggest mess of logs and garbage, then route the trail through it." A big mess of immovable objects stands out like a beacon, screaming "Over Here, Tim".
However, this doesn't always work, as was the case with the mind-changes on the first reroute. Even though the prep work was all done, it just didn't have the right feel.
Fortunately, when the trail was cut, the crew threw the logs and brush on top of other logs and brush about 10 feet off of the clearing. Once they had a double-high set of logs, and trash, Tim could easily see that this was the place where the trail should really go.
(just kidding, Tim. The trail looks great.)

Uugh, sorry I failed to come in as well. I also had a family matter to take care of last night. I'll try to make sure I can make it next week.

I would like to come to the next trailwork at Leb although I don't own a car. Is there anyone who lives near Grand and Hamline in Saint Paul that I could ride with?

I only bring my bike if I'm able to ride before trailwork. I'm allways to tired to ride after.
