Did anyone else have a fantastic riding day yesterday? I sure as hell did! Perfect weather, new bike, and the entire day to ride...

Started out at 10am at Leb. Did a solo lap of the Intermediate to get warmed up, then back out to the car to stretch - BS'd with the guy parked next to me a minute when we suddenly realized we know a bunch of the same people through the music scene.
So I do a full lap with Joel and his buddy John, which was a freakin' blast, even though trying to keep up with quick riders on FS rigs with my rigid bike through the XX was pretty brutal. I wussed out on a couple stunts, but I felt pretty damn good - and I think I showed those guys a thing or two on the Dream out.;) Big wheels roll fast!
After that lap, I met Bob S in the lot post-frame-crack, BS'd a little more, then rode with Mark and Sean - I had to bow out at the X cuz my upper body couldn't take another. Besides, I just wanted to rail Dream again!

I pack up, and as I'm pulling out of the lot, it's just way too perfect. I feel too good. I don't wanna stop riding!! And why should I?
So I stop at home quick for a sammich, stretching, IBs, vitamins, caffeine, etc, and head over to Wirth. I don't know what it was, but I've never felt so fast, even though I was getting progressive more wasted. I did 3 laps, then stopped to chat with Sheely and some other riders at the trailhead - I'm starting to notice that the trees are looking unusually green... and kinda swirly and pretty... neato...
So the group takes off for a lap, and I follow along - I get about 30yds into the trail and *BLAM* I'm down. I'm guessing it was my body saying, "GO HOME." Nothing bad, but I landed on the bike and bruised the crap out of my left quad, right above the knee. Ow. Got up, finished the lap nice and slow, and went home to my girlfriend.
Showered up, patched up, drank some beers, grilled some steaks, and crawled into bed as satisfied as I possibly could be...

Thanks and hi to everyone I saw and/or rode with yesterday and everyone that helped make our local trails kick so much ass. I love this freakin' sport!!
Cheers! :beer_yum:

I hear ya. Yesterday was absolutely beautiful. My fiance and I had a marriage preperation retreat all morning and though the retreat was extremely good and helpful my mind couldn't help wander to the weather outside.

So after the retreat was over we raced home, grabbed our bikes and headed out to Battle Creek for a few miles of bliss.

I wish this weather was gonna stay all week :embarass:

Yup it was a 3 Ibuprofin Monday morning. Always a sign that I had fun that weekend.

Took the road bike through Wirth at noon on the way to a 5½ hour ride with the U team. It was a great day for both types of riding. For a change take your cross or road bike out there. You can't do the rock piles with the light rims, but the ride pace is pleasant and relaxing. Plus the stares from the BMX helmeted FS'ers is priceless.

Aaron, you've got enough good karma for 20 of us! :)

Yesterday's schedule for me:

8:30 a.m. - 10 a.m. - Rode to Theo, did only one lap, rode home.
10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. - Helped out with some wrenching at Sunrise Cyclery (2nd Av. S and Lake St. Get there and buy summin, folks!)
3:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. - Introduced another old friend to a new sport via one lap around Leb.
7:00 p.m. - 10 p.m. - Dinner with the wife followed up by patio time brushing the winter coats off two bulldogs and one tabby cat.

You guys and your ability to ride suck :)

It did appear to be one fantastic day for riding... However, I spent the entire weekend (one of the first of many to come) prohibited from riding. All I could think about was how much I wanted to ride my bike! I'm glad that you all had fun, I had to resort to being out on foot, running.

Don't make me pull out the get-out-of-jail-free card again... prohibited? :fool:

Scott took me to Theo for my first time. (I'm a foreigner) That place is fantastic and the weather was perfect. It's really too bad that my Saturday night revelry, including booze and cigarettes, left me unable to ride as much as Scott wanted.

I wish it was that easy. I had surgery on my hand. I unfortunately am now suffering the recovery of a crash at Theo in December. I went over the bars, bent my thumb sideways and backward the way it is most definitely not supposed to go.

After months of riding, lots of miles, and no recovery, I finally had to have surgery last week. There is some fancy name for it, but he removed a tendon from my forearm and transplanted it to make a new ligament for my thumb. My surgeon (fellow MORC member by the way) did a really nice job fixing me up, hopefully. Unfortunately, I have to face the next three months with no off road riding. He figures that I should be able to get back on a road bike in a month. After only a week without riding, I don't think that I am going to make it!

Yeah, yesterday was perfect. Got four laps in at Theo in the AM. Back home by 1:30. Ate some lunch and had a large coffee. Played a couple rounds of Frisbee golf out at Bryant Park. Watched "Hostel" with some friends (not a good movie. Very cheesy), drank an E.S.B. and spent the rest of the night working on some new tunes for my band.

Not good. Maybe with your fixed gear rig and 3 months off we can *maybe* keep up with you at Leb.

Here's to a speedy recovery! :beer_yum:

Ken, I wonder if you could borrow/buy/rent a recumbant and at least get out on the roads for some exercise.

Did 50 miles on the road bike to get ready for the Ironman. My body hates me right now.

I would have rather rode the dirt, of course.

Ken, I wonder if you could borrow/buy/rent a recumbant and at least get out on the roads for some exercise.

I have been running, managed about 20 miles last week. I go back to the doctor on Friday to get my hand unwrapped and for him to evidently make me a new brace of some variety. I am crafting my "Oath to taking it easy on the bike" to please the powers that be. I just need to convince the doctor that it's okay to ride one of my fixed gear road bikes. No need for my right hand to do much but rest on the bars.

If there were no other choice...only then might I consider a recumbent.

Yep, I rode both Saturday, at work at Lake Maria, and also taught a mini-class on "bikepacking". Sunday I had a nice evening ride at Wirth. There were a lot of people on the trails, even at 7:00 PM. I guess you need to get while the getting is good!

Ride safe,

I enjoyed a bike free picnic with the fam. a few rounds of frisbee golf, a bottle of cap. island wheat (best beer ever), and some darn tasty brats off the grill made for a great day, doing a few miles on a unpaved rail/trail with the gf after chores capped of a fantastic day.

I managed to get out for a couple of laps at Leb early on Saturday morning. It was a little damp early on, but we just went nice and slow. We saw the trail crew out there GPSing, and thanked them for all their hard work. By the time we started our second lap, it had completely dried out. I got home by 1:00 and did some work around the house, then had a bunch of people over for the first BBQ of the year. Great day.
Sunday we did an 80 mile rode ride, in preparation for the Ironman next weekend. I neglected to put on any sun screen  , so my arms are a little red today, but not too bad. That was my longest day in the saddle this year, and I felt pretty good, still feeling pretty good today even. So I'm looking forward to next weekend, as of right now, it looks like it should be another nice one.

Oh and Aaron. Where are those pics of your new bike already?

Many thanks to Ryan Anderson for coming out Sat. morning and helping do the GPS work. Thanks to everyone that was patient with us while we walked the trails.

We should have a nice new map of Lebanon available soon! he had some nice GPS gear thats for sure.

Thanks to Bob and Greg for helping do a little minor maintenance on our way around as well.

I finally got out for my first ride of the year (I know, what took me so long). I am pretty sore today but my knee doesn't feel to bad, so I am thankfull for that. What perfect day, visited a fellow MORCer at an autocross school. Went to a Car Meet for a few hours. Then came home and did a couple of laps out at Theo. Got to follow Chuck and company around for my second lap, man I need to ride more.
