I recently saw directions for the alternate parking when arriving before the main lot opens. Searched forums, but no luck.
So, where does one park if arriving early?
tennis courts. Just North of Leb. Take a right (going south) on the street before the entrance to Leb.

Correct. We used to park just SE on a residential area, but when we asked one of the homeowners if that was cool, he said that it was in a way that indicated that it wasn't. I said we'd park to the North in the future (to be good neighbors) and that I'd spread the word.
North parking is official city parking, anyway.

Thanks for the info guys!
I've wondered the same, especially since for some of us family dudes it's easier to get in an early morning ride than trying to make it out in the evening.
At the Wirth Lake parking lot the posted signs say the park opens up at 6am...so no problem there...but when inquiring about how early you could ride Leb (since I believe the posted signs say it doesn't open till 8am), I was told by an un-named MORC member that you'd be fine riding there anytime in the morning...provided the gate's open and the trail conditions allow for it.

What about the neighborhood on the east side of JCRR? Unless it's specifically zoned no parking it shouldn't be an issue. I've got a friend that lives there and we've done it several times.

It shouldn't be but out here in the outer 'burbs, some people can be kinda wierd about cars parking on "thier" street.
The lot for the park / ball fields is probably closer anyway.
And, you wouldn't have to ride your cool Mt bike on a stupid road.:D

Also Galaxie is legal street parking and not neighborhood so wouldn't be bothering anybody. Could use that entrance also early morning. Also word of caution no matter where you park as usual lock your car and leave valuables at home, I live in Apple Valley and from what I've heard there has been an increase as of late in car breaks in and such around the neighborhoods.

All the more reason to legally park right in front of a suburban home versus a lesser traveled road.

I don't think I'd place Galaxie Avenue as a lesser traveled road by any means. It's busy in the morning and there is neighborhood across the street, you just aren't parked directly in front of a house.
