Now that I have some miles on the SS and have adjusted my EBB a few times for cog swaps I have the dreaded EBB creak!

It creaks when powering out of the saddle.

Bike is a GF Rig. Aluminum frame. I loosened the EBB but did not remove it. I wiped off any grit and greased everything I could by sliding it back and forth in the BB shell. It still creaks.

I checked the chainrings bolts and the crank arm bolts - nothing loose there.

Any tips short of removing the crank arm and removing it completely?

you have to take it all apart and give it a good cleaning with soap and water then dry well

I'd pull apart everything, pedals, crank arms, and BB. It's not that big of a job, should take 15 - 20 min if you've got the tools. Sometimes those EBB's do make noise, but its more likely a BB cup or pedal isn't torqued down.

I'll bet that the noise is coming from your crankset, not the EBB.

My GF 293 had the ISIS Bontrager crankset. It was constantly creaking. I could quiet it down for short spurts by pulling off the crank arms, cleaning and greasing them, and putting them on very tight. But, after a few weeks of riding, they'd get noisy again.

I finally switched to a Race Face Evolve XC external bearing crank. Now, the loudest creaking is coming from my knees.
