View Full Version : Night Rides?
So, does anyone else prefer or have to ride at night? After dark that is.
Due to my work schedule and a little one I am restricted to riding around 9pm or after most of the time (but I also prefer the dark) , and am looking for others in the same situation.
Any takers?

I've thought about riding a friday or saturday night, however I'm worried if I rode a park trail such as Leb (I know this is in Wirth forum) my car would get ticketed/towed or I'd get in trouble for being in the park after 10pm.

Theo is great for night rides! Post up whenever you go and I will make it if I can.
I understand the schedule problems - wife + 2 kids + dog + 60 HR/WK at the office = Very little ride time no matter what the hour!

I did a few night rides last fall at Theo and loved them. Yeah, just post when you're planning one and I'll try to ride down to Theo.
I will be there tonight, at the Gate around 8:30pm if any one is interested.

Being that it's probably the only time you and I will ever be able to ride together Chuck. A night ride sounds like a great idea. Post it up here, or PM me and I'll try and make it.
FYI. When I say the Gate I am not talking about any gate that is near Cedar lake. i am talking about the one between loops, on the bike path.

did you guys ride last night? How was it? I was busy most of the night so I missed it :cryin:
I rode with my co-worker Zak and a guy he knows that happened to out. I quickly realized that indeed I was getting ill that day. I awoke tuesday and could barely breath. No wonder I could only muster 1 lap. Starting to feel better now though and will try to get out there again soon.

I also work crazy hours and am interested in night rides at Theo. I think I can make it there by 9 PM Wed.-Thurs., or much earlier on Fri.-Sat.. Mon-Tues. is bad unless it is a 9:30-9:45 ride.
I'll throw my battery on the charger! 24 hours notice would be great so I know to throw the bike in the car before driving to my second job. :)
Thanks,
Jess
P.S. I may be able to convince a friend or two that lives 5 minutes from Theo...if they have lights!!!

If you're riding on a clear enough night you might not even need lights.
I actually got to ride during the daylight on Sunday. Very busy out there.
So, I got wednesday night this week for around 8:30 at the gate. Might run a little late if work is crazy. Maybe we will run into the Wed-Nite Rowdies.
Konaboy is right about the clear nights but as the leaves come in it gets real dark back in there.
If anyone is up for it I will be there, and maybe with bells on.

i rode wirth on thursday night, probably got there at about eleven. a golden valley police officer rolled up and told us the park was closed as we were getting ready to go in. we made like we were leaving and then doubled back, but i've been wondering since - does riding at night jeopardize the legality of the wirth trail?
I think if they are worried about us riding after 10pm, they need to be informed on other activities that go on back there, but I guess the law is the law.
Anyways, we are usually done around 10 to 10:30.
With that said, I may try to catch the tail end of the tuesday ride, if the trail is dry enough. If not, we will be out wednesday night around 8:30pm.

According to the MPRB, the trail hours are 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. I found it on the website here (http://www.minneapolisparks.org/default.asp?PageID=4&parkid=448).

No, I know the trail hours, and I know that we were there illicitly, thus the query.
As for the activities happening further back, the cop did mention that they were the reason he had to stop us, and he was nice and seemed rather reluctant to even stop us.
i just don't want to jeopardize a good thing.
