Bump!
Also, for you new trail workers out there, I'm the new trail work trainer and we'll have actual, structured training at the beginning of every trail work sesson. So, if you haven't been out for trail work yet because you're afraid of the unknown, fear not!

Is anyone gonna get there early? I get off work downtown at 4, so I'll probably be there before 4:30...
If not, I can just do a lap on my commuter bike...
Probably not me. I stretch the good graces of my boss leaving early enough to get there at five. ( Yay, Boss! )
Besides, if you ride, you can scout the trail and let us know if there is anything that requires our immediate attention. ;)

Do a lap and if you see any garbage......okay...just kidding....:)

Okay then... sounds like I'm going to be scouting the trail alone... ;)
I'll be the guy on the goofy red Fuji carrying a bag of garbage, if anyone's looking for me.

Thanks to all who came out yesterday, and especially you n00bs!
I know a couple of the n00bs out there yesterday were only new to Theo trail building but not trail building in general, so that was a plus, too. Still, we got the worst of the ruts taken out and garbage picked up. The turnout for the first session of the season was great. :)
Trail work tomorrow (wed. 5/3) from 5:00 to dusk. We will be doing general maintenance.

I don't know what I was thinking but I left work early, raced across the city, sat in the parking lot for about 30 minutes and then realized we do trail work on Wed. The big clue was being the only one sitting there and then a guy coming out of the building and saying, "No, they do that on wed."
Anyway....

Just want to say thanks in advance to the multitude of you out there who will excercise amazing will power by opting out of riding the trail tonight and instead help with trail work.
You're an example of all that is good and right in this world and give me hope for the future of humankind. :)

Is there a chance of some weekend trailwork sessions happening? It's pretty tough for me to make it out on Wednesdays.

We are thinking about it. Maybe when we need a lot more work done and when we start working on section 6a and 6b (dubbed section 12).
We will post up when we plan a Sunday morning session. Thanks for asking.
Hi Stefan,
Yes, we will have at least one trail boss committed to leading a Sunday session. We've been holding off because we have no urgent issues at the moment, while other trails in the metro, like Salem, really need people during the next few weeks. Look for a Sunday session maybe every other week starting some time in summer.
It makes us ( and me ) happy that a bunch of you want to give up part of your weekend to make Theo a better place -- we will definitely have sessions for you!

This would really help for me being able to get to trail work. The line of work I'm currently in isn't exactly the same hours every day and it totally revolves around the weather. Often times I get started on something that I have to finish before I can leave or I'm working so far out of town that by time I got to Wirth all the trail workers would already be at home posting on MORC.
Weather permitting we will be doing trail work from 5:00 to about 7:30, then then off to fun and games at the Kenwood Community Center for the MOCA board meeting. Come join us for either or both.

Thanks, Shad and Mara, for the "trail building lesson" last night. It was great to do "realtime pinning" and watch Mara's eyes glow red from just the thought of be able to 'Control' other bikers!! I'm on the list for the "wall ride" project.

Call it the "mini wall ride" project....or armored berm. We don't want freeriders and such getting all excited thinking this is going to be some big wall ride or something. mara got approval for her idea, so it's just a matter of finding a session to do it in.
Thanks to everyone for coming out to trailwork. We are starting to see a lot of new people and they seem very excited and motivated to work.

Are you thinking Zone 6, or is the mini wall slated for an existing spot?

yeah, sorry, I should have posted "armored berm". I could see freeriders thinking something bigger.

5:20 is fine, we usually try to make it into the woods by 5:15, but we should be easy to find near the entrance to the main loop most of the time.
There will be trail work Wed 5/17. We will be continuing the trail maintenance started last week plus repairing any new damage caused by the yahoos who insist on riding when the trail is wet. Come on out and give us a hand. Yahoos are weclome too - come out and help repair your damage.

It's in Section 3 (south loop) a short ways after the table jump. There is a low wet spot that needs to be armored.....and mara came up with an excellent idea on how to do just that.
We are looking to have a weekend session, maybe the last Sunday in May or the first in June. We were hoping to wait until we had the materials to complete a couple of larger projects we'd like to have done before we start the expert section. If not, there is certainly enough mud riding to fix to keep us busy for many Sundays :cryin:

The first Sunday in June would be better....the last Sunday in May is Memorial Day weekend.

Join us for trailwork Wednesday, May 24 at Wirth!
We're meeting at the par three lot at five. Look for us on
the trail if you get there after we move out -- we'd love
to see you regardless of what time you can make it.
Bring bugspray, gloves, work boots, water, and happy trail
vibes.

We'll see how well Mara's Mudpit survived the showers that came through soon. It was cool to walk the trail while the rain was coming down and seeing the puddly places and where the water was going to. Shad had a pretty muddy byke. ;)
I saw you guys heading up Bryant from Lake St. on my way back to work.
Yes. I spend way too much time at the shop.:eyeroll:

Bump!
Now is the perfect time to try trailwork for the first time. We aren't rushing to meet deadlines anymore and can take the time to teach you everything you ever wanted to know about working in dirt and more :)
No trail work this Wed (6/14), but there will be a trail ride. Meet at the Par 3 parking lot - try to ride there, as parking there for riding is frowned upon. We will be leaving about 5:30 for a tour of the trail. There is a MOCA board meeting 7:00 at the Kenwood Community Center which we will be heading down to after the ride and a pass through Brownie may be in order to see how it's holding up.

Conditions are about as good as they get, so I recommend those of you totally bummed about lack of trailwork tomorrow get out and "inspect" the trail conditions several times over. Do it quickly, though! ;)

If it's not too wet, that is. I already got rained on once today. Looks like #2 is coming up quick. Time to get my errands out of the way and slip quietly into the bunker.

It gets really noisy around here when storms are coming!
