Hi all - just wondering if any of you have ridden the trails by FedEx or out by the Prison. I just got a new bike after years of not having one, and am itching for somewhere to go before the weekend. (Sold mine when I moved here from Marquette, MI a few years back.) The bike guy at Scheel's gave me a map, but I'm just wondering what the terrain is like at either of those locations. I need to start out with some light-ish riding to get back into the sport, I'm sure. :p Is Quarry Park really lame?

Quarry Park isn't much of anything really. Nice scenery but for biking it's easy. There is some "shoot off" single track but not more that a mile. I know of another one on the other side of town. Don't remember the name but it's a few miles of single track. That's a nicer one, good for beginners.

Quarry park is a nice ride in the woods, mostly jeep trail type riding. The technical singletrack as previously mentioned is rather short but can and will help build some skill in that area. In my opinion it's a good place to get going again. When I started riding around here, that's one place we went to get off the roads.

There is also the Plum Creek trail, it's off of Clearwater Rd by the compost site. You can find directions at www.midmncycling.org. (http://www.midmncycling.com) Click on "Where We Ride" at the top. I haven't ridden there, because I only learned of it last fall when it was too late in the season to ride it. Apparently its mostly tight single track, rather slow but fun. Just what I've heard.

The new 'Jail Trail' is by the Penitentiary, this is new as of last fall and I also have not ridden it yet. Mike at Out n About said they did a lot of work on it. It's about 4.5 miles of singletrack with better flow than Plum Creek. They expect to expand it even more in the future.

Can't wait to check them out. Maybe I'll see you out there.
