....the idea of sponsoring non-members to do trailwork in return for a MORC membership? If I recall, this was under consideration.

Good question.. I'm not sure where this was left off but I remember it has been discussed quite a few times.

It is a good idea.
And, as with many good ideas, the hardest part is translating it into reality.
Basically, this idea needs to have a champion within the organization: someone who can work with the trail bosses and our membership coordinator to set up a system that keeps track of who has worked how many hours. This requires time and a commitment not just to start the program up, but to continue to monitor, support and promote it.
I think I can speak for most of the members of the MORC Board when I say that we wish we had time to act on all of the good ideas that regularly percolate in this space. Immediately if not sooner. Even with the addition of our part-time staffer, we're still struggling to meet existing commitments to members and sponsors alike. At least I am. ;-)
This isn't intended as a complaint, so much as an attempt at explanation and a plea for understanding and patience. If you feel strongly enough about an idea, try to find a person in the organization to take it up with you. Someone who can help you see it through.
Better yet, be that person.
Thanks. Keep the ideas coming.

Still in testing. Rigorous, extensive testing.
My offer still stands for anyone who wants to work at Theo. If you put in ten hours, I'll pay for your basic membership -- new members only. I'll sponsor at least the first four people who put in enough hours. If I remember correctly, there were other Theo dwellers ready to step in after that as well. No experience necessary; we'll train you on everything you need to know.

Mara, I would do the same as you stated.
Charles, I completely understand the need to match ideas with people to figure them out and run with it.

Yay! Thanks!
Now we just need all you who aren't members to step up and test the system. Trail work is fun. Really! I hope to see some new faces out there this season.

So I can quit whining? ;-) Thanks.
