I was thinking it would be a good idea to have a MORC bussiness card, so to speak, to have avalible for local bike shops to have on hand. I'm thinking of having the web address, a little club info, DON'T RIDE WET TRAILS and things of that nature.

I have been telling people a lot of this in the last few weeks and writing down the web address for customers as well. But it is getting way too busy to explain a lot of the MORC believes to everybody that seems interested.

With the yearly membership socks you could throw in a few cards for members to toss in their saddle bags to give to friends and/or people on the trail.

Any thoughts???

Great idea, I talked to a few people about something like this and I think it is one of the many things on Charles' list. I felt like the biking ambassador of MPLS this weekend being on the LRT and crusing the river road and downtown. Lots of people asking questions. :)

Usually goes something like this:

[Them] Hey where do you ride around here?
[ME] Usually [Trail Names] but this time of year we are on the roads to prevent trail damage until they dry up.
[ME] You can find a list of the local trails on the Internet on morcmtb.org or just try googling morc.
[Them] Dork?
[ME] :) No, morc as in Minnesota Off-Road Cyclists, M, O, R, C
[Them] Oh okay I will try to look that up.
[ME] Cool, hope to see you out there!

Done deal!

Charles and co. have the first round of MORC business/contact cards printed out already. I'm sure he'll see this and post up. Not sure how we are distributing them yet. Having them at the bike shops for employees to hand out is a great idea.

Please make sure that the dirt bosses get some. It would be nice to have something to hand out when people stop to talk while you are out doing trail work.

How about every member get a dozen or so when they renew, or when noobs register? Make them part of a "Care Package". We could stuff them in Camelbaks, seat packs, jersey pockets, etc. to pass out as we go. Maybe send some with the next newsletter?

Will they be available @ the next board mtg? I am planning on going. Any of the new stickers available? And how much?

Can a person buy a few to give out? I've always wanted something small I could give out to people with our internet address and info. I talk to a lot of people and it would be nice to give them something to remember us by. I know business cards don't cost too much, but I'd be willing to pay for the ones I would need to spread the word.

I think if we went through VistaPrint and if Charles used a basic template there utilizing our logo in a Charles approved template, they would be relatively cheap and keep our branding in tact. We of course would be required to pay for them ourselves. Which I would be in favor of doing.

Much easier than saying go to www.morcmtb.org (http://www.morcmtb.org) not .com .org... no MORC... no M.O.R.C.... no... Minnesota Off Road Cyclists abbreviated. .org... ahh forget it. Here's a buisness card VIOLA!

I would throw down some coin on a few as well.

It's always nice to leap into a thread a dozen or so posts in...and NOT be totally behind. Here's the skinny:

Earlier this year, we produced several thousand referral cards for MORC members to hand out to folks they meet on the trail. Each card has a space for you (the MORC member) to write your name, and a call to action for people to go to the site and join. I'll post artwork for the cards shortly (i.e., as soon as I remember where I hid the .pdf).

What we'd like to do is use these cards as part of a referral drawing, whereby every new member you refer to MORC earns you a chance to win cool bike schwag in a drawing to be held at the 2006 Minnesota Mountain Bike Summit. Said bike schwag is in the process of being solicited from various businesses involved in and related to the bike industry.

My plan was to do a mailing to all of the members in our database with a set of ten cards and a letter explaining the program. Much like I've just done here, 'cept by mail. Said plan is obviously a bit late in coming to fruition.

So here's what I propose: Instead of waiting for me to get my act together on a mailing, anyone who'd like to participate in the referral program should send me an email (marketing@morcmtb.org) with your name and a mailing address. I'll arrange to have a set of cards sent out to you.

I will also post this offer on the home page of the site.

PLEASE NOTE: Because we have not yet formalized agreements to secure the aforementioned schwag, I cannot make any promises about what prizes might be involved. Suffice it to say that we will do our best to get ahold of some good stuff. We have very generous sponsors and some dedicated and well-connected people working on this.

Bottom line: If you join in on this–and I hope hundreds of you do–please do so primarily out of an interest in helping to make MORC stronger.

Mick, thanks for starting this thread. Pete and Dan, thanks for speaking well of me and cluing me in. And for the record, there is no "g" in my last name.

Thanks,
Charles Youel

Will do, Pete. And thanks for the kind words, everyone. I'll try to get sets in the mail yet this week. Is 10 enough to start, or do people think they'll need more?
