After 7+ great years with my former employer I decided it was time to move on. I am now a mechanic at Excel Cycle in Excelsior. It's a real nice high end road shop without the attitude. It should be open in a couple of weeks. The service department is going to be top notch. Even though it's a road shop I still expect to do a lot of mountain repair work, only now I should be able to have the time to really take care of customers the way I think it should be done. Hopefully I will see a lot of familiar faces at this new shop.:) :) :) :)

Nice!!! I heard about that shop opening. I do about 20 urban rides in Excelsiour with my freinds during the summer. I'll definitly see you there this summer. Just look for some like 3-4 kids on urbanized HT's and one BMXer.

Congrats on the job!

Contrats! It's great to see a new bike shop open.

Don't let Elmer know you're quitting or he'll come down from heaven and kick your a$$.;)

Congrat's Pete, I hope it works out for you. The boys will be happy for you I think, but then again since it's a roadie shop! Good luck and we'll ride or talk soon.:etard:

Congratulations a bunch! It would be fun to steer a group ride up that way to check out the new shop. They obviously have good taste in mechanics. . . :)

Cool Pete. And if you can still organize those cool mech classes.....that would even be better....:)

What's with road these days anyway? Lance wins 7 and now all these crazy high end specialty road shops.....wild I tell you...wild.

Congrats!

Hey, I'll support you, and come see you for all the stuff I can't do...

I always thought it was too bad you worked at that other place... :D (just my opinion of Pete's previous employer)

Congrats, Pete. And thanks for the great service at Penn (now I'm really glad I brought my XC in last week!).

I was reading the first post thinking, why is Pete going to work at a motorcycle shop?!

Now you need to convince the owner to carry Titus and Turner MTBs!!

Thanks everyone for the support and words of encouragement. I'm excited about the potential for having a world class service department at Excel Cycle. This new job gives me the opportunity to go big with the service department and do things that no one else is doing. Thanks again.

Way to go Pete! I'm in search of new employment as well. If I cann't find something at QBP then I'm going to make the rounds and see who needs a service manager. Where's the new shop and what are you guys selling? High end road? Sounds like the shop I'm helping at now!! Those road geeks do like to spend the bucks, but they can drive you a little batty sometimes. Here's to PRO mechanics!!

Thanks Tyson. I'd think you'd like working at STC at QBP with all you suspension service ability. I know I liked it when I spent a some time working in there last summer. If nothing pans out at Q you should check into Excel Cycle. It's in Excelsior. It's a few minutes west of Hopkins on HWY 7. We are selling Colnago, Bianchi, Look, BMC, and Orbea. Small specialty shops are definately the way to go when it comes to enjoying your job.

Congrats Pete! I didn't know we had a new shop coming to Excelsior, that's sweet. Where is it going to be in Excelsior?

I also heard that someone's opening an Irish pub right on Main street. That will be awsome. I can ride right from my front door down the bike trail, go to the Irish pub and have a few too many Guiness and then go to the bike shop and spend too much money.

The wife will be thrilled.

Irish pub right on Main street.
It's the same guy who owns O'Donovans across from 1st Ave, according to my kid, who owns 318 right up the street. Matty's place is a coffee/wine/beer shop right at the trail crossing on Main. I haven't sen the bike shop yet. I'll stop in soon.

Under the post office where the grocery store used to be. Across from The Gables, kinda by Maynards.

I'm really excited. Today was my first day. I rode to work and back. It's about 10 miles each way. I built a couple Orbea's, helped get the shop set up, and just tried to get a feel for the place. The nice part is that there is a lot of freedom for me and the other mechanic to do things however we want. Should be cool.

Congrats Pete,

Future service to my beloved Blur will henceforth be in your capable hands at Excel. Looking forward to seeing the shop...

Good to see you move on! Now you understand why I didn't take the offer ;) :D .

LBS's rule. CLBS's (corporate local bike shops) are lame!

BTW, A really good friend of mine also sems to be a good friend of yours! Nick Statz from up in Brainerd mentioned your name. I love the MN cycling community, such a small world.

Anyone looking for an experienced sales rep? College educated and highly motivated, that's me!

Sorry for hijacking the thread.

This is what I do now. I'll look into any viable alternative (other than used cars or insurance).

How about homes? I got a pal who's building a real estate business.

That's a thought, though I know the hours are kind of eratic. I need something that's a little more 9-5 with weekends free.

Thank you for the help.

They are a liitle older than your friends groups, I'm sure, but some local bands have been booking at my kids place (318). There was a group from Minnetonka/Hopkins about a month ago who had a sick guitar player. Most of the music there is singer/songwriter, roots, jazz, different stuff.

Yeah that was HAK. That kid is insane at guitar, self taught himself too. That band normally plays sets of stuff, like a set of Clapton, set of Zeppelin, set of Fink Ployd...so on. All the bands are made up of seniors and some juniors. Im a freshy so none of my race.:)

Hey when I was at the Concert tonight i stopped by Excel and although it was closed it looked really nice.

I might be wrong but i think i saw a Bianchi DJer. It was red and sitting on the end of the mtn. bike section.
