Ok all,
We have been given permision to design and submit for approval a layout and paln for a mountain bike skills park at Salem Hills Park.
We will have about 4 acres or so of land to work with, some elevation to play with. the area is shaped like a bowl and has about 10-20 feet of usuable elevation on a good slope around the bowl.
There is also a boulder about the size of a VW Bus that we might be able to do things with.
I will keep everyone posted and once the Spring cup is over, and we have done the finishing work on the Nature Trail and all of the Mountain Bike Trail, we will start in on this.
The City is already experienced with similar issues since they built an operate a skate park already and we should have no problems getting thier approval for Class 2 structures and such. Anything else will have to go through a larger approval process I would guess.
Post up if your interested in helping out.
Thanks
James

Post up if your interested in helping out. I don't think you will have any problem getting help for this one. If the freeriders don't come out of the woodwork to help out......they are not true freeriders....:)

Let me know when the work starts James, I've been busy going to school 6 hrs a day, and working 2nd shift but I still have weekends off, so I'll try and make it.

Right now the park design is still very preliminary.
What we are thinking is to set it up as a training area, someplace where riders can practice there skills with lower risk and quicker repeatability.
As it is right now I am planning and 2-6 in high bridges of various widths, probably 15-20 feet long sections anywhere from 18" wide down to 3" wide. Probably some others that change width, have turns in them etc.
There will also be a few different size log and rock piles, a log ride or 2 for practice riding on curved surfaces, a mustache or inchworm bridge would also be cool. A slow, wide teeter ala Lebanon for new riders will be included. There will also be a tall skinny teeter, I hope to build a swivel Teeter and a step-up/step-down teeter also. Those three would be in the more advanced section for skills practice, along with the huge rock which we will probably climb up to and drop off of to a transition. Jumps will all be tables and and we hopefully will be able to put in a short rhythm sectioon of them with a downhill runnin entrance.
Once I get out there and get some measurements and layout in my head and on paper, the design work can start.
Just remember, everything has to go through IGH for clearance so...

If you organize it, I will come. This sounds like a sweet project. IGH is close enough for me to help. When are you thinking of starting and completing this project?

and a step-up/step-down teeter also.
Is that multipel teeters connected by rubber? I always thought that would be sweet to try to ride.

We have contacted Mark Schmidt, IMBA Canada. He will probably do the design on paper for the city and then let MORC put its personality into the skills park.
