I'm thinking about getting a road or CX bike for training duties when I can't get to the trails. I don't have much of a budget right now, but wanted to see if anyone had anything they're thinking of unloading.

I'm 5'8" with a 30" inseam. Prolly looking at something in the 51cm range, depending...

I'm going to be liquidating some of my other bike stuff to fund this, so that's why it's kinda a feeler post...

I'd also be interested in a frame, and I'll scavenge parts to build it up.

See my for-sale post... (Ultegra group and Ksyrium wheels) I have basically everthing you would need to build a road bike except for seat/post, chain, and cassette.

Thanks Brett, I'll keep that in mind if I find a frame.

I forgot to add that I'm only interested in steel frames/bikes. Thanks. :D

...And looking around more, I may be more in the 49-50cm range...

Funny you mention Lemond, I was in County Cycles last week, and drooling over the Poprad disc. That's kinda what's got me going...

I'd seriously take a look at the Redline CX bikes. They're a VERY good deal and nice riding bikes.

Gunnar (Waterford) Crosshairs is an 853 steel option at a good price.

Did they ever make a steel version?

Regarding the Poprad disc, make sure you do a thorough test ride and that you're comfortable with any fork flex that occurs when braking. That is a lot of torque that those Avids put out and the Bontrager carbon fork is pretty spindly. Shooting the breeze with one salesman who said he'd buy the Poprad rim brake model but would probably pass on the disc due to fork flex (and the disc model is what he had on his showroom floor).

Thanks for the head's-up! The Poprad disc is out of my budget anyway, but definitely drool-worthy!

Agreed - I've got a Lemond Wayzata, which has the same frame as the Poprad but flat handlebar rather than the road bars. The Reynolds 853 makes the bike a bit heavier than AL but oh so nice riding! Good luck.

I have a Surly Cross Check in size 49cm that i've been thinking of selling. It was set up as a single speed and is currently in the process of becoming a 1x8. The frame is army/olive green, had frame saver sprayed from original owner, few dings here and there but everything is in good working order. I'm also 5'8" and it fits me good. PM me your email addy and i'll send ya some pics if your interested.

Oh and frame is cromo 4130

Any other questions let me know
