Hi Everyone
Dakota County is looking for some help from us to educate our legislatures. A request for funding will come before the house committee this week. The bonding request is for assistance with implementing a water management plan for Lebanon Hills.
The problem is that many communties surrounding Lebanon Hills Park dump their runoff water into Lebanon Hills lakes and ponds. This has been causing erosion as well as large fluctuation in water levels in the lakes and ponds. The shore line of the lakes change with these fluctuation and the areas that were under water at high levels become vegetated with non-native species when the water is at a lower level. This has been causing problems with the non-native species eventually invading other areas of the park and causing problems competing with the native species plants. The plan would create control ponds and measures to let the runoff water clean and get rid of polutants before it enters the parks waters.
Steve Sullivan, Dakota County Parks Director, has asked if we would be willing to contact the legislatures that you will find on the link that I have put at the end of this message and offer your thoughts on the bonding bill.
Since MORC is a non-profit we can not take a position on this issue. However, you can inform the people that you will find listed at the link provided and you can let them know how you feel either pro or con on this bonding issue.

Thanks for everyones involvement in this project. I think we as a user group need to become more involved in the political process and this might just be a start for us.
Thanks everyone
