I am looking to purchase a small mtb frame to build up for my sister. She is about 5'3" and I believe her standover is about 28". Aluminum would be nice and it needs to be able to take 1 1/8" headset. Those are about the only specifications. I am not looking at spending too much. if anyone has something laying around, give me a shout. Thanks!

May be overkill, but I have a Cortina 4130 hardtail frame for sale that is 14" because it's a DS frame. Comes with a headset, Thomson post and a DH saddle. $125

Atl least you know she'd never thrash the frame!

Oh, and I also have a Nashbar generic hardtail, but i'd have to check the size. I'd sell that for $40. Brand new, never built up.

The cortina would be nice but i think it would be too nice for her. I would be interested in the Nashbar frame if its the right size. Thanks Danger!

I'll measure up the frame later. I'm thinking it was a 15", but not 100% sure.

Porter- Looks like it is 15" Center to top of seat tube, 13" C toC. If this sounds like it'll work, let me know, and I can get some pics for you.

Dan- Pics would be great! Is the Nashbar frame steel or aluminum? 1 1/8" headtube? Is there anyway you could estimate the standover height? I think it should work no matter what, I just want to make sure. Thanks a bunch!

I'll try to get some pics asap. It is steel. I can try to get a standover for it, I'll just throw a couple of wheels under it. It is 1 1/8" headtube.

Here is a link to the frame on Nashbar, but mine is red.

Dan- So how long have you had that Nashbar frame? I am interested in it. My sis has a standover of 28inches, if you happened to have thrown some wheels on there to measure. Thanks.

I've built up two small Nashbar frames for my sis and gf.
I paid $40 a piece which included the seatpost.

I personally like steel bikes, although mine is an 853 steel and these
are cro-mol. I think they(nb frames) make a great beginners bike. It's a little on the heavy side for racing, but otherwise a great hardtail frame
for the money.

both small frames
my sis 5'9" with a 120 mm stem
my gf 5'4" with a 90mm stem

Sorry for the delay Porter. I have had the frame for 2 years. It' never been built up, but it has a few scratches from shelf wear in my garage. I put my Sun Singletrack wheels on it and it looks like standover is right at 27-27.5" this is with the rigid fork, and fairly beefy 2.4 Motoraptors. The fork that's on it is from an older Gary Fisher, and just barely fits, it's 1 1/8" threaded.

Here's a pic.
