If you could ride any one legal mountain bike trail inside the United States or Canada, money is no issue, what trail would it be and why?
Feel free to post pictures.

I heard Fruita is pretty darn good. I will get my chance to ride it the spring. But until then, I would have to say Theo. Why? Because I helped work on it a bunch.....:)
It is and will be evolving into a really good trail system.....can't wait to add more!

British Columbia! I have watched too many mtb videos about the trails there. I just want to ride them soooooo badly. I do want to get back to Fruita though. It was excellent. I like Moab too.

Probably Moab... although I know there are better trails. Its one of those places that I think everyone needs to experience (at least I hear that...) so if someone is footing the bill thats what I'd pick.
Then again it would be fun to ride trails in Europe...
(after Han's posted it reminded me that I've always wanted to ride my favirite ski area - The Big Mountain in Whitefish, MT)

I would go to either the northern half of the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route, from Banff to Salida, CO, or the Lolo Trail from Powell, MT (West of Missoula) to Kamiah, ID.

That's funny, I was kinda thinking the same thing. Sure, there's better trails all over the place, but if I was riding Theo that would mean that summer is finally, officially here.
Plus, the other day I had a dream about doing trailwork at Brownie Lake. Can't wait to dig in there!!

I always thought it would be fun to ride out at Tahoe. I have been there in the Winter and its just amazing, I would imagine it would be even more so in the summer.

Maah Dey Hey (did I spell it right?) for me, I still have to get out there, then after I do that I'll push farther west, but for now the pictures that you guys have submitted have really got me longing for the wide open spaces.

If it's still open, I'd go for the fire roads on Mt. Tam. I rode down them in '90 and it was a blast. Of course, by then they had the 20 MPH speed limits for going down. I also rode all the way from Lower Haight to the top before I went down.

Toads has been a trail that I've always longed to ride. I'm not sure what trail I would ride myself but I've been thinking about it.

Mackenzie River Trail near Sisters, Oregon. Outrageously cool. A very close second would be just about any trail in Crested Butte.(After learning to breathe at 11,000 feet!) http://www.morcmtb.org/forums/images/smilies/banana.gif

I'm not sure if that photo is taken on Mr. Toads Wild Ride or not, I think it might be a photo from the Flume Trail. Anyhow there are some great trails, I hear, all around Lake Tahoe. Toads and the Flume trail are two that I hope to someday ride.

I've been to Taho but haven't riden it yet. It was so cool out there, I did want to ride but didn't have the time. I've seen those photos where you're WAY up there with a awsome view. That is one of my destination trails.

I hear that lolo trail is pretty cool. My girlfriends family is from Missoula and her mom works in Lolo, I am pushing for a drive out there this spring for some biking and fly fishing. :jumpy: Any tips? I know LIMB does some stuff out there, I may have to try to hook up with one of them.

I'd love to do the Mackenzie River Trail in OR. too, as I've never ridden it, and I've heard great things about it. The same goes for riding the 401 trail in Crested Butte, it's supposed to be some of the best single track in the states. Another set of trails I've heard a lot of good things about is all the buttery smooth trails in Tsali North Carolina, I think that will be next bike trip.
I wouldn't mind riding some of the stuff in BC, but I just know I'd end myself there :hit:

Hmmm...
I'd love to ride:
Pisgah and Tsali in NC
Womble and Ouchita trails in Ark.
Taos in NM looked cool when I saw pictures/read about it
Black Hills stuff
Ma Daah Hey
Cayuna
Fruita and Moab would be cool too I guess, just seem too touristy (meaning: popular... though it's probably for a reason)

Pete,
The Adventure Cycling Association (http://www.adventurecycling.org/) is headquartered in Missoula, and loves for cyclists to stop by for info or to just visit. They are the ones who developed and mapped both the Great Divide MTB Route and the Lewis and Clark Bicycle Trail, and have excellent maps of both for sale there or online.
I was checking out the US Forest Service page for the Lolo Trail (http://www.fs.fed.us/r1/clearwater/LewisClark/LewisClark.htm) and it looks like they dropped the permit requirement for the last year of the L&C Bicentennial. Check out some of their map and info links, too.
25 miles straight up and then 75 miles downhill. (Actually, the AC maps have a profile on them, and it is very up-and-down the first third or so.) If I don't go back to Russia this year, I really want to get out that way.

A few have already mentioned the top place holder on my list. The Mackenzie River Trail in OR. Have hiked parts of it and have always longed to roll it. 26 miles of singletrack bliss that transitions from high desert lava fields to lush NW rainforest as you descend along the river. And since were in OR, may as well hit the Alpine trail out of Oakridge and the North Umpqua near Roseburg.
Others would be Mr Toads outside of Tahoe, The Berryman in MO, and the rock strewn singletrack of Slatyfork WV. I could go on and on, but we'll leave it at that for now. Oh yeah, and Teocalli Ridge in CB since I missed that when I was there.

Speaking of the NW. The N. cascades hwy(WA), the methow valley is one of the coolest places ever. Great little mountain town and area. I miss that area...now I'm a flatlander living back in sota'!! Views of many big granite walls, mtn lakes, mt. baker, glacier peak and such are there. Climb, hike or bike. While in northern WA you gotta head up to <ST1:p<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City>kamloops</st1:City>, <st1:State>BC</st1:State> or skaha, BC even whistler, BC...cause that's where it's going down hard. <O:p
So many good places in this country, my head hurts thinking about the opportunities. I am a "disNjointedflatlander". After <ST1:p<st1:PlaceName>Grad </st1:PlaceName><st1:PlaceType>School</st1:PlaceType> I'm moving back out there. There, anywhere not flat.
<O:pSo hard....OK one trail!!! Tiffany Mountain Loop and Peak, north cascades area(all good). green trails map WA-No.53 USFS or http://www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=1779 (http://www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=1779) click on topomap, notice whistler pass and honeymoon pass or go here & click on methow valley mountain biking http://www.trails.com/tcatalog_trail.asp?trailid=BGW058-018 (http://www.trails.com/tcatalog_trail.asp?trailid=BGW058-018). The Aflaconguide, "mountain biking the methow valley" is a great little guide book.<O:p
I'm now so restless by this thread, thanks for making me desire mountains again bad!!<O:p

Hey if you get out there and see my lung, could you bring it back? I'm pretty sure I lost one up there somewhere...

I've ridden in a lot of places, but Crested Butte is still the best imo. The 401 being the favorite. A long road/fire road climb to Scofield Pass (around 11k), then a lung busting climb on single track to the tree line, then blissful miles of single track with great views, ending with an easy wind down road section into town. Topped off with a Red Lady ale at the brew pub.
