I'd like to get my hands on a complete ready to ride, most likely used, bike to get for my wife. She's 5'4" and wants something that does not weigh 100 lbs. The main purpose of this purchase is to see if she'd really like to get into this.
We live in west-central WI and make it to the cities about twice a month. I could arrange pickup whenever/wherever you'd like.
You can PM, email me, or just reply to the thread.

At first glance, the title reads as if you wanted to buy a mountain bike and the payment was your wife. Ha ha ha. Sorry I couldn't resist. I will keep my eyes and ears open for any bikes for sale. Welcome to the MORC Forums by the way. Always good to see new blood.

I started low end decent with 2 Specialized Hardrocks (hardtail) under $400 clams, one for me and one for my 13 year old son. It worked out well, I was able to hit some decent jumps without destroying the ride, so it held up to my abuse. I'd look at the Specialized low ends for her. I have decided this year to upgrade mine to a full suspension since I have become more involved in riding. Good luck though.

take some time to get a professional fit where she actually sits on the bike not where they put the info in the computer. the smallest things like comfort, ablitiy to stradle, reach and such are very important if you want her to enjoy riding. even an inch too big or too small on the seat tude or top tube can make the ride very uncomfortable.

Yup, I got this mountain bike for my wife... it was the best trade I ever made. j/k- she makes cookies to well for that!
Thanks for the advice everyone- by no means is she going hardcore yet. We just need something thats comfortable for a trip through the woods, but more dependable than Target junk.

Specialized Hardrock. They are decently built, comfortable, and if she decides to get a little creative on her trail exploring they can hande additional abuse. Look around and see what's out there. Trek makes a decent beginner ride as well, the Specialized fit me better, my friend opted for a Trek for fit. Either way have fun searching.

Figure out what fits her (my guess is 14" or 16") and go to the MTBR Classifieds. You can pick up a quality HT for the price of new that she'll be able to grow into skills-wise.
