There's seems to be some confusion so I'm rewriting this thread:

ALONG SIDE the Loppet ski trail (on Cedar and Isles) is a 'plowed' path of glare ice. This trail run along side the entire loppet trail. Like Stefan said, this is probably the path a snowblower or some sort of machine took to throw snow onto the actual groomed trail. This is a great ride. You have to have studs though. It is glare ice and it's probably slick without them. There is no need for you to ride on the groomed trail at all. It seemed everyone who read this thought we were riding on the groomed trail (which is almost impossible in the first place) and not the ice path next to it. Just wanted to clarify and ease the worries of the XC skiiers on this board. The bad news is that it won't be fast ice forever. Once it snows, game over. Get out and ride it before it's too late.

I posted this elsewhere but this is a more appropriate place.
The ski race is over. This means there are miles of sweet, groomed, trail going around the minneapolis lakes system. Just got back from riding it with a buddy. We basically rode the entire groomed ski trail on cedar and lake of the isles. We played around on Calhoun but underneath the calhoun/isle connector bridge is closed. I suggest going out there and riding it before it snows. We were both on studs but I don't think you really need them to ride it. You'll find a "plowed" path on the side of the groomed ski path. This is fast and pretty smooth. A night ride sounds pretty interesting on this trail....hmmmm..any takers?

the park board grooms them for skiing and it is really disrepectful to ride on them even after the race is over. we dont have very many places to ski right now so it would be really nice if eveyone stayed off them so we can ski.

I agree it's disrespectful to ride on the GROOMED TRAIL. I'm saying there is a "shaved" section right next to the ski trail that is just Ice. Unless you ski on solid ice, I don't think anyone will care if we ride on it. But yeah, stay off the groomed trail. It sucks to ride on anyways. The snow is actually alot deeper than the snow on the lake.

That, and the fact that the skiers and the sponsors paid to build that course through entry fees and support, to say nothing of the efforts of over 300 Loppet volunteers to make that trail skiable!

When the race was over this afternoon, there were still skiers of all descriptions out on the Loppet trail, which the Parks and Rec Board considers a official Minneapolis Parks Ski Trail. From edge to edge, that is what it is.

Ride safe,

Oh well, we had a blast (and didn't ride on the GROOMED trail) but I can see your point that those trails are paid for and built by skiiers and I respect that.

I also mispelled 'Loppet'....geez!:etard:
