We have some good news from Elk River. They are in the process of applying for a grant for Hillside from the DNR under the SCORP program (http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/aboutdnr/reports/scorp.html). The project includes paving the parking lot and entrance, landscaping, 2 picnic shelters, indoor bathrooms, drinking fountain, and bike cleaning area.
Elk River is looking for letters of support, preferably from people away from Hillside. "One of the key factors in the grant is that the facility have a regional draw so if you are willing to write something and would like to include anything about people coming from all over to ride there, that would be very helpful." The deadline for letters is January 3. Please send a letter in to help us improve Hillside even more!
Please e-mail, fax, or mail your letter to Michele Bergh. Thanks!

Support email sent! Please send a letter or email as requested, the northern metro really has limited trails, so let's do what we can to make the ones that are up there as good as possible!
Thanks for the heads up Ryan!

Agreed. Hillside is a GREAT trail. I've only ridden it once but I loved it and plan to ride it a bunch this year. I'm sending my email now.
Email sent. Indoor plumbing is such a good thing :)
Email sent. Thanks for alerting us Ryan. It'd be great to have those kind of facilities at a trailhead!!

Yes, those races were for and put on my the MN Biathlon (http://minnesotabiathlon.com/). Last summer they couldn't get enough help to hold the races. Hopefuly they'll do it next year, I know they enjoyed doing the races.

I don't get there as often as I should, but I dropped them a letter. I figured it couldn't hurt to hear that there are guys like me driving almost an hour one way to ride their trail! It would be nice if those great upgrades become reality!

Done and done! I hope to be able to make it to some trail work sesisons this year, and make it out to the trail on a more regular basis (it has been awhile since I have been out there, but I really enjoyed it when I was an even worse biker than I am now ;) )

..........The project includes paving the parking lot and entrance, landscaping, 2 picnic shelters, indoor bathrooms, drinking fountain, and bike cleaning area....................
Great project, I sent my letter of support, but why the bike cleaning area? Responsible riders don't ride when it's wet enough to get their bikes muddy, so why encourage them with cleaning facilities?
I assume a cleaning facility would include a hose, which would be useful for filling hydration packs, but that could be accomplished with a faucet on a wall.

Yeah, I was a little thrown by that cleaning area too. Elk River came up with the idea. It's not bad but just something you don't see much, at all. Maybe a changing room instead, seprate from the bathrooms?
