there's been some snowshoe activity going on. most of the singletrack should be packed down by now.

I was out at Hartly last night and I was able to ride most of the swamp loop, most of the fisherman, I was usint the trick of having an old downhill ski on the front and about 5 psi (when I would sit on the bike it would just about bottom out) in my 2.3 rear conti vertical pro tire. The tire seems to grip awsome in the winter when run at amazingly low pressure. I was amazed at some of the stuff I went through and up. On a normal bike I don't think it would be rideale much. I am courious if anybody was out there on a bike with the large marges and how that did.

I can't answer your question about Hartly but do have a question... How did you attach the ski? To tireless rim??

I saw discussion earlier about a ski bike, but it looked more like a DH thing.
Doing a ski on the front for XC sounds interesting....

To attach a ski to the front remove the rubber from the rim and screw up through the bottom of the ski into two peices of wood on both sides of the rim (counter sink the holes and fill over the screw heads with wax). This will act as a guide to cause the ski to turn when you turn the bars. Then simply put screws over the rim from the wood on one side to the other. this will tighten the connection and stop the rim from rolling on the ski. My buddy thought I was an idiot for doing it untill he tried it, he now has one too. The conditions where you would use this makes it a slower ride than normal but it is still a lot of fun because when you only have a rear brake you can't stop to save your life, it gets interesting. It is amazing how responsive, yet sloppy the feel is. I sugest using a ski about 24 inches long and center the rim on the ski, if it is too long it is hard to control. We are still experimening with different lengths and positions.
The swamp loop is fast and getting icy in places. The fisherman is all rideable. The gurad rail is rideable, however it is a bit narrow and kinda bumpy but definatly worth a lap.
