Lets celebrate the arrival of December with a snow/ice night ride at Leb this Thursday.

Come one come all - but please post up if you plan on coming so we know who to look for at the trailhead.

We'll all join around the campfire (er... propane fire) after the ride and regale ourselves with tales of our heroic efforts.

I'll be there, as I'll be in the area for babysitting with my grandkids that afternoon.

I will say maybe. I don't have studded tires yet, but that's never stopped me before.

I'm in.

Single speed again, except it will be sporting my new winter sprockets. This should make the climbs and rock gardens easier.

When I got home from Salem last night, I pulled my wheel apart to see why it flatted. It appears to have nothing to do with the studs. The hole was in the side (near the top, not bottom), leading me to believe it was probably caused by one of the times I used wrenches to get a tire off. (these tubes are pretty old). Looking at the tire liner, I couldn't see any indication of places where the studs poked through.

This is probably a mistake, but in my infinite wisdom, I put a patch on it and put the wheel back together. However, in addition to the plastic liner, I added an old tube. I sliced it lengthwise on the inner part (like Scott described), then wrapped it around my tube before putting it back together.

So, I'm still planning to ride tonight, but we'll see if I ride or walk out. Hopefully, if I flat it will happen near the end of the ride again. Meanwhile, I'll hit an LBS today and pick up a couple more tubes.

BTW, I had another strange thought on how to permanently line a tire using an old tube.
1: First, you fix the flat on the old tube. (doesn't have to be a good fix)
2: Goo up the old tube with glue, and shove it into the tire.
3: Tape off the tire bead (to hold the tube in), and fill the tube up with air. The air will hold the tube against the tire while the glue dries.
4: After the glue dries, pop the tube and slice it lengthwise.

I'm in. Maybe someone will have already packed it down for us.

Interesting idea I may try this on the tires I'm building. I will let you know.
Also won't be riding tonight.
Have fun...

It keeps on dumping out there. I assume we're not going to let the weather get in our way tonight?

Let me be clear that I am not whining about the weather ;)

My only challenge will be getting there on time, but I am planning on attending.

With weather and traffic the way it is, should we consider starting at 7 to give people more time to get there?

7pm is fine with me.

I stopped by Penn Cycle at lunch, and bought 6 tubes. Now, I'm set for 5 more rides, and Penn can keep their lights on for another month.

I changed the thread... 7pm it is. I'll probably be there early in case anyone doesn't catch it - will just hang out until everyone arrives.

Excellent ride tonight. I can't believe that Erik attempted the XX log ride without studs.

Good ride. Trail + snow = lesson for me tonight though. What a great workout! Hope my timberwolves come tomorrow...

I have to get my new wheels built and get the super duper snows mounted. Tough going but had a blast as always.

Fun ride indeed. I rode a new winter project bike last night. Finally built up my old Trek frame as a dedicated fixed gear, no rear brake, with rigid fork. Riding in the dark, in the snow, at Lebanon Hills with group of other riders is maybe not the best place to test out new equipment. As it turned out; fun bike and no problems to speak of despite having not even test-riding it after the build.

Thanks again guys for going riding. Anyone riding anytime this weekend?

I'll probably be riding to and from somewhere to the opening tomorrow night down at One-on-One. Not sure where from/to but I should be on 2 wheels.

Nice bike. The rest of us were almost able to keep up with you.

I'm heading north this weekend, hoping to break out the XC skis.

I'm in a tough spot right now. Bike took some damage last night... I need to either repair, pull out my good bike, or go with that ss I've been so hesitant to get... I may not have an option to ride this weekend but if I do I'll be out there if a ride is set up.

Maybe like a Sunday afternoon Leb ride? Gives me a day to work on things tomorrow.

Good ride last night. I think that I will have to find a smaller gear for next time, to keep from spinning out on the hills.
