Well, for the freeway stuff I sped it up to 3000% and my shutter speed was set at 4. So half was camera, half was post I guess you could say. And for the Other stuff I just had my appeture set at 60 with shutter priority on. The stop sign stuff was also shot with my shutter speed at 4, and I sped that up 300% for the first shots before the interior car shots. I did some cc also, just saturated it a bit mor so the colors popped a little better.
Buck, do you by chance know where I could find some car mount plans? I was going ghetto style by placing my camera in-between the head rest, haha
oh and for the shot of the car, I had my appeture set at 60. I pretty muched just zoomed and moved the camera around fast... haha. Then sped it up in post.

right on that is cool. Looked really good. what does shutter speed equal out to on your camera? you sure you don't mean your appeture at 4.0 and shutter speed at 60?
Don't go with ghetto car mounts unless you like to see your camera destroyed!!! you can get good ones for just over 1 bill. I don't do a lot with cars, so I don't have one but I should pick one up they are fun little setups to have...I'll try and dig up some stuff for ya.

I was wondering the same... I had my appeture set at 1.6 the whole time. my shutter speed was at 4 for the blurred shots and 60 for all others. I still gotta sit down and take a closer look at everything. I had the AEA on, so I was using that for the car shot. For the blurred shots I set my shutter speed at 4 and I had my F still at 1.6 . I still got some stuff to figure out still :D

Yeah for the blurred shot you were rack focusing...kind of...I think you are referring to your zoom marker. with the 4 and 60...I don't think that VXs have progressive scan, but if they do it could stand for 60i(or 60 interlaced) otherwise you could also be shooting in 24p/30p/24pa...yeah for that dark the automatic setting would be wide open, which is right around f 1.6-1.8... anyway, I'd like to check your cam out this weekend when I am up in Duluth, I've had my hands on a VX but only for a really short time.

for sure, I plan on testing it out to see how it handles action footage. I know it has no 24p, but it does have a "fake" progressive scan which isn't anything special, better to just stick with interlaced is what I hear.

It's not true progressive, it simulates it. I don't know all the details on it and I still have to test it out to see what it looks like. I just got that info from a review I read about the camera. I guess I have to test it first hand before I say anything else about it.

hehehe, I thought you meant ALL progressive scan cameras. the Canons GL/XL1s or whatever have somethingl ike that, then the XL2 has true progressive scan, I believe it is called cine like mode, or something along those lines, I've used a GL camera as well but that was out in MI for only a day at the Red Bull 5X not long enought to give any kind of good/bad review.

haha yeah, I wasn't saying interlaced was superior to progressive :scream:

Nah, that video stuff is too complicated, i'm still trying to master our new E-300 DSLR, the thing is so pimp! I'll get lots of practice shooting w/ it this winter so hopefully I'll have it dialed for riding season next year!
Speaking of practice, Adam, PM about that thing you were telling me about that is on thursday, or whenever. I'd like to try and make it over with the camera and try shooting something other than lizards and palm trees.

cool cool. My favorite shot is the one toward the end where you're filming the street at ground level with the one lonely street lamp. Something about it...cool atmosphere.
What band/song is that? I like it, but don't recognize it.

To answer your question about this, when the camera does a 'simulated' progressive mode it's subsampling the 60i video stream to simulate the look of the 3:2 pulldown. Basically you're tossing out information which you cannot get back to simulate the 'feel' of film. Generally throwing away information is bad. I don't know all the details of it either, but your image sensor is not being read in progressive mode, it's still feeding an interlaced video stream to the dsp that's doing this strange process. Thus your 'progressive' images are still going to be composed from alternating lines of an image which was interlaced to begin with, or (this would suck) they just use one interlaced field to create the interlaced frame (cutting your camera's resolution in half). I would agree to stay away from this feature unless you really like how it looks.

We better see a film festival entry from you next year! Your video just testing out your camera was sweet. I'm gonna have to go all out next year just to place I think.
