Just wonder how people did riding to work today (wednesday, Nov 9) with the wind. My five miles took me about 35 minutes this morning (normal 15-20) riding 39x16 mtb. I ride north and west getting to work and the wind was blowing me all over the bike trail. I live in mostly open area so not much in the way of wind blocks. I pretty much was laughing all the way to work enjoying the resistence training, standing up to pedal into the wind gusts was fun Nothing like doing 5-7mph on flat pavement. Worked until 9 pm or so and rode home in a moon and star filled night with hardley any wind go figure.

Dude, I know!

My commute is straight east into downtown about 5mi. I was on my fixed gear MTB (is it still an MTB with drop bars and slicks?) geared at 40x15, and I was spinning like a madman the whole way in, trying to keep up with the wind. I left home 5min late, but still got to work at the same time. Sweet!
But on the way home, thank the bike gods for drops - I just hunkered down and grunted like a caveman. Big time fun!

So 30mph wind yesterday, and 30 degrees this morning. And it's supposed to be 55 on my way home? 65 tomorrow? How many layers can a person comfortably wear, and then carry home?
No wonder people think we're idiots. The looks from the office folk get more quizzical all the time...
Yay for commuting!
:D

Haha, I love the weather in this state, keeps the riff-raff away! This morning was the first time it was cold enough to break out the beanie and the swix lobsters. I'm lucky, 2.5 miles just isn't far enough for temp or wind to make much of a difference regardless of how nasty it gets.

woah!! talk about windy. i didn't commute yesterday but i went on about a 20mile ride. i had to stop halfway through my ride at the Erik's in shoreview to warm up my feet(forgot my booties) so i put a plastic bag in each shoe. worked like a charm for the ride home. holy crap was the ride back windy. i felt like a wicked shimmy. all in all, it was a good ride. cheers :beer_yum:

going to work last night in the rain blew. so i put the fenders on today (and had to pick up a new rear fender as the one i had was not worth the work). hopefully my tires can hold up to the snow when it starts to fly.

and i dont want to hear anyone complaining about cold temps when i am riding home at 3am every night :hit: it gets pretty cold that late at night no matter how warm it is during the day

I was all disorganized* this morning and ended up driving to work. My entire day has sucked hard because of that. I'm going to Freewheel tonight to get some booties, fenders for my winter bike, and maybe some new tires. No more f-ing driving.

Yeah, but technically, the coldest part of the day is at dawn, as the earth has been without the warmth of the sun for the longest:p.....

But yeah, I don't consider it cold out until its below 15 deg. Let winter come, and bring the freakin' snow this year!!!

Well wind temps down to 0 degrees wednesday morning you have your wish winter is starting to show. I am still with out a car so Wed. morning commute should be fun :D . Fenders are needed in this weather helps keep some of the water and slosh from hitting you in the face. I am going to drop down to 34x16 tonight for the ride into work Wed. am and see how that works. I ride to work usually between 5:30-6:00am. I would guess that traffic isn't much of an issue at 3 am so you only have to watch out for the drunks coming out of perkins at that hour. I have been using flat pedals for the past month or so on the day to day communter, they are waterproof and warm so I skip the booties unless I take the road bike to work.
