Not sure if this is the right place for this subject but I have a co-worker who is a long time accomplished cyclist - he has recently gotten his 12 year old son involved in some races - the Short and Fat and I think the race up in Milaca or at Hillside recently.
Anyway his question is how can his son, or him and his son meet other younger riders and their parents for rides and races? He is particularly interested in mountainbikes vs. road.
I suggested he post up something in racing or rides but thought I'd go ahead and start the ball rolling - oh, I also suggested he join MORC (of course) - he knew about the site.
Let me know your thoughts.

Interested in sharing what I know and younger rider group rides.
My son is a tad younger but rode Theo alot this year, he also rode Leb many times(with expert loop this year), Mammoth 3 of 5 loops, Maple Lag kids comp race, and a Buck Hill race. I raced mnscs sport all year this year. He will race mnscs next year. He's not super fast yet but very good at tech. NO he will never catch me....never darn it. anyway....
Both of us would enjoy a father son event with others. Let me know...we are still riding this year.

Hi Steve. As you probably know, Banning and I ran the Minnesota Junior Cycling team for the past 4 years. Banning has left for California, but the core group of parents is still procuring funds and sponsorship for the team. They are road based (the best way to train, by far), but many of the riders performed very well in off road events. Jimmy and Alye were both second overall in the Short and Fat at 16 years old, and Derek was always way up there in the Expert races. I saw one of the parent leaders today while on a ride, and he said that Dave Montgomery and his son may be taking the helm of coaching duties. They are out of GP in St. Paul. I may be doing some programs with them this year. Here (http://www.mnjrc.com/index.htm) is the MNJrC website if your friend is interested.
