Speaking of things I don't know how to do well or suck at.

This one gets me. I saw Adam hop pretty high on his 50 pound BigHit once. I can hop my BigHit, but not nearly as high as I can my BMX or hardtail MTB bikes.

Any suggestions on this? What do you do different than a normal bunny hop? Normal for me is front wheel first, then rear wheel, not clipped in and both wheels at the same time.

well i sure cant offer advice but i was wondering...when you say bunny hop do mean you lift your front wheel and then level out bringing your back wheel up? Because when i was growin up we called those pro-hops and bunnyhops were when you just jumped and brought the bike with you....these only gave a person a few inches of air. i was just wondering

Maybe. But when I was growing up.....:laugh:

I have never heard the term pro-hops, until some younger riders on here mentioned them awhile back. I have heard bronco though, which riders thought was the front to rear wheel style.

As far as I know from all of my BMX days, we have always called them bunnyhops, either way you do them. But I do agree, the front to rear wheel way can get you higher and make you not have to hop as far to get over stuff.

Haha yah bunnyhopping big bikes is hard. I can only bunnyhop my bike like a foot:laugh: . What I do is give me lots of time to set up, compress my suspension as hard as I can to get the most bounce, pull up on my bars really hard and push my weight forward to get the back end up. Then I usually stop and take a breather cuz it takes alot out of you

I don't know like anything about air shocks since i have a spring POS. But wouldn't turning up the rebound on the fork/rear shock help on blasting the bike up more? If im wrong, I'm wrong so don't start the whole "you dont 5H17" stuff.

Practice! I run REALLY tight suspension, and I can bunnyhop my 52 pound beast about 2 feet. I have also learn how to bunnyhop manual with suspension, and drop from a curb or small ledge into a manual.

You just have to learn your suspension ya know? Run it tight for street sessions of cruising around. I OLNY run soft when I race or ride DH. I know Adam runs his really soft though most of the time. It's tougher that way, but he does it!

To me, it seemed like he compressed it and then used the rebound to launch up higher. I think he did just over 2 feet or something.

I am getting better, but I do not ride just one bike. Having to adjust from riding a hardtail MTB, BMX, and my BigHit takes time every time I get on it. I wish I could just own and ride one bike, but I can't......:scream:

I know what you mean... but the variety is worth it.

Compressing the suspension is a big part of it. You end up hopping twice, a small one(tires stay on the ground) so you can use your body to compress the suspension then the actual bunnyhop. Compressing the suspension takes good timing and it will change based on how your damping is set up. You want to make sure that you start your main hop when you suspension is at it's lowest point from your pre-hop. This will give you the firmest platform to hop from and also give you a little boost from your suspension uncompressing.

I don't have any problem bunnyhopping big FS bikes; I just come at them with a little speed and lift my unsuspended SS right over them. Once in awhile you snag some funny little extra part of the FS, but it usually rips right off and on you go. :cheesy:

I'd like to see you rip something off of this:

:p

As far as bunnyhopping goes, I just push down, compress the suspension, and then pull up. Front first, then back.

Looks like an up-north shot. Nice.

Haha, Demo's eat SS for breakfast.....

I know what you mean, I never park my X-check or SS too close to the Dirtbag, I might wake up one morning to find them missing!

Well.. we could start with that funny little wheely cage thing. That looks a little suspect. And then of course, there are all those stringy wires and housings. I think they're connected to a little box full of pawls and tiny teeth right up on top and in front. Pretty susceptible!!! :cheesy: ;)

I remember reading a few years ago about a couple of paraplegics that DH out west. Brave souls. They go for it and when they topple, their friends just set them back on the wheels and away they go. Amazing!!!!!

I would love to try that. I think on the video Statement they have this intense guy that jumps like 30ft. over a river with one. The only problem with those is trying to find wide enough trails.

I find using compression like you would on a dirt bike gives you the best effect. Give a small intial weight shift by bending your knees quickly, when they get to the point you're comfortable bunnyhoping at, lock them quickly and follow the hop with the bike. Knowing your suspension and keeping in time with it gives a pretty good hop.

what do you think the best way to bunny hop is? Doing the way where the wheels leave the ground at the same time or pulling uo the front wheel and evening them out. I usually do it where both tires leave the ground at the same time, but i can never get more than a few inches of air and have difficulties with the other method, does anyone have any tips on this?

If you pull up the front wheel first, then the rear wheel, you will have less distance to travel to clear whatever it is you are bunnyhopping. Why? Because if you do both wheels at the same time, you have to bunny hop high and long enough to clear the wheelbase of you bike and the object you need to go over.

Front wheel first, then rear is the way most good bunnyhops are done. You have more control over the bike and better ability to go higher. You can concentrate on getting the front wheel to make it as high as you need it, then later follow up with the rear wheel to match that height.

This thread is for bunnyhopping with big heavy full suspension bikes. I am not sure if that's what you are riding, but there is a bunnyhopping thread in here somewhere. I will find it and bump it to the top of the thread.
