View Full Version : New table??

We built a new table where the rollers used to be after the downhill jump. Has anyone ridden or jumped this yet? I didn't have my bike yesturday and didn't get to test it out. I want opinions on this in case I need to make changes. The lip should be pretty mellow and not be a kicker. Besides those who don't jump much, it should not make you endo, if it does....let me know.
For people first learning to jump, make sure you are not running with your seat way up high and XC bikes with long stems will tend to want to endo over jumps. To keep from endoing off a jump, make sure you pull hard on the bars and keep pulling pressure while you are in the air. Also, keep your weight back above or behind the seat.
This table is easily rollable too, just don't hit it at full speed and you should be able to keep both wheels on the ground. If you go super fast and don't intend to actually jump it, it will send you funny and possibly kick up your rear wheel. Slow down, please don't skid, and take it at a reasonable speed until you get comfortable with it. If you want any jumping tips, look in the Riding Tips sections. This table is designed so all riders can ride it and learn to jump it, even if you don't clear it, it has a slight downslope on the top so you can jump 2 inches if you want......or 10 feet.......:)
Too much of a lip... and it needs a longer transition! :D ;)

hey that new table is pretty sweet, just one thing, are the rocks on the side there for a reason? i was thinking that if someone has to bail before getting to to table the rocks might not be to flesh/bone friendly. great job otherwise
...are the rocks on the side there for a reason? ...if someone has to bail before getting to the table the rocks might not be too flesh/bone friendly...
They're actually a lot safer now than they were before. The rocks used to be just off the trail, right after the table... right in the fall zone.
I think the likelihood of someone bailing before the jump is pretty low.
The idea was to use them as support for the side of the table.
We'll check 'em out this Sunday.
Thanks!
p.s.
Did you ride it, or did you just see it from the pics?
If you rode it, how was it?

Respect for the new hit. Realize it is there for beginners. It could be stretched out a bit. The lip flows real nice. If a beginner rolls up to it, he/she may not know where the landing is until they are right on top of it. Otherwise, hopefully these pop up a few other places in the area.
P.S. I did ride it.

Not too bad. Rolled it the first time to take a look. 3/4 speed gets you over the top and you land on the down slope; very smooth. Accelerating puts you over the table. I don't try for high air. I like to go long, so I think the table could be longer.

I jumped it twice on our night ride last night. I too think it could be a bit longer and by doing so, I could make the lip with just a tad more transition. There is plenty of dirt in the area to add a little more length on the lip side and I don't think the lip is too quick, like Pete suggested, I just think it could be longer/taller so you get more wheelbase on it.
I like the jump, but I was landing 1/2 way down the landing when it was dark and I was only doing about 2/3 normal speed. We will have to see what we can do to it, I didn't have my bike with me when we built it, so it was hard to judge.
One thing for sure, it's a lot safer than what was previously there. Oh, and the rocks are there to prevent people from riding around it. If someone bails, it's going to be on the downside, and that's where the rocks were before.
Also, make sure you have your cranks parallel to the ground, one foot in front of the other, when riding over jumps, rocks, logs, or anything else. If you have one pedal in the down position, it's going to hit the top and possibly wipe you out and/or damage the obstacle.

Make it bigger!
If you have to slow down to hit it, it's too small.

I agree, and I think others do to. Plenty of dirt over there and maybe get some of that rock at the bottom for filler.
I think bigger will actually be safer.....IMO.
Sunday project maybe???

You can clear it too easy right now. Longer would be better.

So can you :)
Rode it a bunch of times today. I agree... the table is too short.
At slower speeds, it's really smooth and I had no problem making it to the downside.
IMO the transition isn't long enough for the speed I'd like to carry through it.
I really like the fact that I can hit the first one with more speed - now that the middle roller is gone.
Let's look at it on Sunday.

Sweet!! Like to hear you are getting it down. I will plan on looking at it Sunday with you. I know what it needs and I will bring my bike this time......:)

Here is the basic table shape right now.

Looking at this, all we need to do is add more dirt to the lip of the jump and make it longer. Since the top of the table has the slight downslope to it, as we do this, the lip will get higher as the table gets longer. This will allow for more transition and keep riders from having the kick feeling Pete always talks about.
Right now, if it's taken fast, it will feel like a kicker. If you slow down, it feels really good. The problem is that we have a big downhill right before this jump, so we need to design the jump for faster speeds. In the end, you can clearly see, this will be both jumpable and rollable. With the slight downslope on the top, those riders learning to jump will enjoy a slight downsided landing rather than a flat top.
I hope we can work on this Sunday. Looks like some rain in the forecast.....uhhggghh...I hate rain.

And you're gonna get hurt anyway, rocks or not.
Seriously, I like the new tables. The one in the enchanted forest is about right. It isn't a given that you will clear it. A little bit of work has to be put into it.
The new table at the end of the main loop is nice, but I agree with the majority in that it is too short. The first time I hit it I watched as I soared completely over the landing and landed in the flat. Cleaned it, but slowed down the next time. That just doesn't seem right, having to scrub speed lining up on a hit.
Anyway, thanks guys!
I rode the full rigid SS off it a bunch of times today (I rode the 6" full-susser the first time). A completely different beast...
Took a few tries, but I did get used to the lip/transition.
(it felt way too quick/steep at first)
Definitely needs to be longer for the good jumpers. I saw Quinn out there and talked him into test riding it... he landed 4 feet into the flat.
Heck yessss! I don't doubt that at all, that kids got hops. I haven't been out there to hit it yet (too busy sitting on a beach in Aruba), but I bet it is too short. Usually they are always too small to begin with. Make it bigger. I'll try to make it out sunday and let you know what I think.

We didn't get to work on this because of rain. Hopefully next week. We will keep you all posted. In the mean time, the jump is fun, just slow down, without skidding, before you hit it.
Thanks.
