What kinds of features would you like to see added out at Afton? I would like to get a feel for what people would like to ride and why. Do you think we should add a teeter or something along those lines? This is just a feeler for what people would like to see out on the trails. And NO, we are not taking any of the climbing out. If anything will might add just a bit more. Talk it over with the voices in your head and let us know.

I want wallrides, high skinnies, a discombobulator, and lots and lots of floooooooow

I also want to come out and help build it!

I like rolling, gradual descents with combination turns, the kind where you have to use the first turn to set up for the second or third turn. Like Buck said, floooow!

A teeter would be cool. Maybe a camelback? Some sort of downhill slalom would be pretty sweet. I love the big dh after the Manhandler down to the bottom of the hill. Some more sections like that would be sweeeeeeet! Oh yeah, skinnies would be cool too.

Hey "JackRabbit",
Quite stalkin' and talkin' and get my red bike dialed... :D

Your going to hook us up with some "organized" help like you did on some other trails that didn't really need it right? In the Spring it would be appreciated. Especially if you got the race team off the road bikes and out doing a little trail work... Put the "Hammer" down!

Team Ricco- out...

Is this a good way to get people to help support a trail??

BTW, what other trails don't need assistance from volunteers?? I am curious what your point is. Is Afton the only trail that needs volunteers right now?

Yeah! does Afton deserve more help than other places? It does, I agree.

All kookyness aside...

I'll support Afton again, Larry/Troy keep me posted. Duncan(at minimum), Leo & Alta are ready again too.

Can we build a loop-de-loop?

Yo Heath,,, Thanks for coming up to bat when a person tries to joke around on these forums... I guess I better just shut my mouth or be sent to trial. I've got better things to do, I'll post up again in the Spring when it matters...

I post this in closing... Farm Team rules even though they are our nemesis and their fast guy is a double agent. We broke them in half at Levis... "Excellent" as the Goat stated...

Ricco out til Spring.

Over!

First, I would like preface the following ideas with the fact that I have been involved with the trail work at Afton this past summer. In addition, the management at Afton (thanks John Reents) has been extremely supportive to those efforts. I would also like to add that Afton is one of my favorite places to ride/train. That being said, I think the trails at Afton could be so much better than they are currently.

I would propose a complete redesign of the trail system. Many of the sections are very nice but there is little continuity in the trail as you progress from one section to the next. To make matters worse, new sections have been added over the years that disrupt the flow even more. I would like to see a group of "dedicated individuals" sit down and PLAN a new layout for the trail system. The goal would be to utilize most of the trails that already exist but change the connectivity between them by adding new sections or changing the direction of certain sections. This will not be an easy "fix" and will require more resources than simply adding "stuff" to the trail, but it is the right way to make Afton Alps a premier mountain bike trail.

In general, new sections of single-track should be added in areas that are currently wide double track. For example the current exit to the bridge loop could be extended (on the side of the hill) all the way to just below "shady lane". Also, the section between the meadows chalet and "southbound crossing" could be routed on the hill on the right hand side for additional single-track. There are other areas as well, but you get the point. The idea would be to create new single-track sections that have more flow and connect them to make a better trail system. I love the climbs and it is what makes Afton what it is, a tough challenging trail.

I would love to hear what other people have to say.

I sweet jump on the downhill after manhandler, maybe into that small bowl! I like jumps. Otherwise the trail is great when your legs are in shape. A teeter would be fun, and like Porter said, a slalom course! Yahoo, I'm excited for next spring already!

The longest windy DS course Afton can handle, and more, yes more climbing.
