View Full Version : What's in a name?

So, I've been known for a couple years on here as "Chris D" being my "real name."

Ladies and Gentlemen, that name was a lie.

I've been wasting time on forums ever since I discovered the UnrealTournament "Other" topic section back in 1999. I've always been anonymous. Why? Well, it's the Innernet, stupid! You don't put your real name out there on the Innernet! Are you crazy? The government can find out who you are and keep track of everything you do and say on-line that way. Even worse, that psycho ex you've been avoiding might try to add you to her IM "just to catch up on the good old days!"

So, as you can see, for me to even admit I was "Chris D" on here was going out on a limb. But, these forums are different, I've discovered. Rarely do you actually know the people you talk to in on-line discussion forums in real life. Typically, they're just some guy out there with more opinions than he has free time who's willing to debate some pointless rant with you just to win.

You have to admit, as heated as the debates in the "other" section get, there is a bit of temperment due to that whole real world connection. You really don't want to go too far with pissing people off or making inflamatory comments because you might actually see that person in the Leb parking lot and have to be nice to them. Worse yet, you might catch a pinch flat with no spare tube and have to rely on the kindness of someone you called "As ignorant as the most inbred hick" to loan you supplies so you're not hoofing it back to the lot.

Putting my full name out on here isn't a big deal, really. Most of you out there know what it is anyway. For those who never knew my last name you are free to let loose the "Drunk on Miller!" or "Drunken Miller!" jokes. Not only are they wholelly original, but they just get funnier the more I hear 'em!

I will never allow my name to be put out on the internet where all the wierdos, perverts, bikers and spammers are lurking.

I knew his real name a long time ago. All you had to do was ask......:)

Do you think I have any Dutch in my blood?......

You can flame on-line and in person. That's the real fun as you don't have to be nice to them in the Leb lot. Confrontation is step one to progress.

In the last week or so you've really outed yourself as the formerly closeted, micro Euro-car driving, weird-named dude we already knew you were.:crazy2:

Please, please tell me that there isn't some The Crying Game story lurking in your shadow.

That's rediculous. You should always use your real name online.

Thankfully, the growth spurt that took me past 6 feet largely silenced the choruses of "Charles in charge." Largely, but not entirely. Especially since my high school job involved wearing a clip-on bowtie, plastic vest and purple nametag.

I've had my share of last-name jokes all my life, as you may well imagine. And I'm not even related...

And I'm glad you posted your last name, now I know that you aren't the Chris D that owes me money. :fool:

for Chippendales during HS? Jeesh, child labor reform is truly lacking.

Yeah, they stopped teasing me when I hit the 6 ft mark as well.

Now I go by the name "Big Bippy Glassic". :D
