So I am sitting at a conference with bunch of engineers, and who do I run into? Uncle Knobby!! Anyone remember the Ask Uncle Knobby column in Mountain Bike Magazine?

Sweet! That was a great mag during that era... Cap'n Dondo, Uncle Knobby & Zap were the ones that really got me into mountain biking.

Crazy. So what's the story? Is he an engineer by day now? Does he still write for anything.

Cool run in, Ted.

The early 90's was a great run at Mountain Bike. Don Cuerdon, Dan Koeppel, Bill Strickland, Uncle Knobby, and even Zap from time to time all added something that I was looking for in a magazine at that point. How times change.

edit: I just did a search on Dan Koeppel and did you know (from the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame website)

Finally, though it initially appears to have little to do with off-road cycling, in 1994, Dan wrote an episode of "Star Trek: the Next Generation," which featured a strong, tough female character. Dan did what any true mountain bike aficionado would do: named her Juliana, after Juli Furtado, who was in the midst of her famous 18-race winning streak at the time (the episode is called "Inheritance," which appeared during the show’s seventh season.)

He has always been a engineer by day. He has been writing for motorcycle mags lately.

Crazy. So what's the story? Is he an engineer by day now? Does he still write for anything.

Cool run in, Ted.
