After meeting for 2.5 hours yesterday with MNDOT, DNR and State Parks, we have some direction for where we need to go to move the trail at Cuyuna Recreation Area forward.
The first thing I need to find is a professional engineer (civil) that would be willing to look at the trail design standard and sign off on the design and construction plan. MNDOT has assured me that the PE does not have to actually reiview the entire route all we need is someone with the credentials of PE that would be willing to sign off. This is a federal requirement and not one put on us by MNDOT.
So I am looking for someone within the membership of MORC or anyone that would be willing to do the sign off of the documents and design plans. I am also looking for a PE that would be willing to do this for a non or nominal fee. So if you are a civil engineer and have been looking for a way to get involved with trail building in Minnesota this would be your opportunity. This is the first obstacle that I have to overcome before we can start the on the ground design portion of a 40+ mile trail system in Cuyuna.
If you are out there and want to get involved please respond as soon as possible. We need to move this process forward so we can start moving dirt next spring or early summer.
