Any interest in a trip to Levis-Trow either of the next 2 weekends? dates, details? I'm a little bit limited due to some family stuff, but would still like to get over there agin this year. Overnight is an option?

Just got back from a day at 9 mile, was thinking of Levis next weekend perhaps, and something else the weekend after, for some reason i got lots of weekends off this month. 9 mile closes on the 15th, when does Levis close?

A day trip will be a lot less complicated.

I'm still in for next weekend... I'm planning on camping on 14th and/or the 15th.

I've never been there, so post a link for the MORC approved campground and directions.

Great weekend for Levis! Perfect weather. The climbing was excellent down at Devil's Lake! Funny to see you and Greg on I94. Glad to hear you had a good time.

Ok how about an overnight 10/14 - 10/15? The trails are worth a full day of riding. Will be a cold night to camp. I have camped at the Russell County Park campground. Nice facilities, but I'm not sure whether the showers, etc are open this late in the year. Trailhead camping might be an option, but would campfire be allowed?

Here is a link to trail info.

As far as I can tell gun deer season not open. I don't know of any other hunting issues there this time of year.

Who is interested?

Yes you can have a camp fire Jeff. They have fire rings at all the tent sites. Plus the Shelter has a great wood fireplace and you could sleep in their if it's still open. The trails are in great shape, some leaves falling on the trail but you can figure out which way to go. Others were staying at Lake Arbutus camp ground near Hatfield. They have showers but not sure how late in the season they stay open. Bow hunting is going on right now. So is small game hunting.

So at this point I see 4 of us - Holtz, Reinhardt, Loerzel, myself.

Everyone "in" for camping Friday night at the trailhead? Forecast right now is for some rain Thursday, clearing Friday and nice Saturday, Temps 45 - 70 degrees.

I would be able to take Friday afternoon off work and get an early start, not sure whether that works for anyone else. I have a Grand Caravan, I can carry 2 other people, bikes and camping gear with no problem, though 3 others would be pushing it a little.

Just to let you know, camping at the trailhead is $5.00 a night and $3.00 a day for riding. There was some firewood, but I don't know how much is left. The woods are full of downfall for you to burn. Most of the sites have picnic tables at them also. Have a great time, I know we did. Stay warm and keep the tires rolling.

Jeff,

I might be a last minute show. Right now I am planning on going but am still undecided on camping friday night. Would like to and shouldn't ahve a problem, but something might come up.

If I do decide to go I can take 4 bikes and people for a day trip or 4 bikes and 2-3 people for a camping trip.

I'll keep you posted.

The only climbing near there is not exactly close. There is excellent climbing at Devil's Lake State Park outside of Baraboo, WI. (just south of the Dells). There is some climbing on the way down to Levis at Willow River State Park (outside of Hudson) but the climbs are short and rather difficult. (ratings between 5.9 and 5.13, more 5.11s and higher)

Ok,

Lets get a final roll call for the trip. I need to figure out how much chili to brew up tomorrow night for dinner on Friday. (granted leftovers could be breakfast on Sat I guess)

Mike and I will be leaving in the Taxi about 3:00 or there around from South St. Paul.

Who is driving, hitching a ride, needs a ride leaving when etc.?

Also, Meat Chili? Vegi Chili? Hot, Mild, medium, Nuclear both going in and coming out? I can make everything and will everything but the meat will be out of the garden. I'll have sour cream and cheese and cheddar Cheese to cut the heat.

I'll bring bowls and spoons, everyone else is responsible for whatever else.

Frito's, rice, corn bread all go good with chili.

any side dishes are welcome chips, vegi's, whatever. if somebody makes cookies or brownies oh yeah you will be welcome.

I'll have a 2 burner White gas stove along for cooking.

Friday Dinner is the only one I'll share, you have to get all other food on your own :p

Ther is neilsville kinda close but I have never eaten there. People will probably want to bring sandwhich fixings or something. I will probably bring peanut butter, jelly, bananas, and totilla's to make wraps for myself at lunch. but if people want to go in to town they can.

Chilli sounds great anytime!, any temp!

I was gona ride with Jeff, but St. Paul is closer... Maybe we can all meet there at, say 12:30ish....??? Just an Idea... I'm coming from Fridley and I would drive myself, but I'd rather pool.

I have a pickup with 1 empty seat, room for 4 bikes, a whole buncha beer and other camping essentials.

So let me make sure I have this right: Sprockethead and waitabit are riding with James. James is bringing Chili, the rest of us to bring sides, etc. Doug Holtz and friend will meet us there. Correct? Sounds like a plan. I assume James knows how to get there, I94 to Hwy 95, then turn left onto J and up the road short distance to the trailhead.

My plan is to leave by mid-day Friday, maybe earlier. I agree with James as far as bringing food for Saturday, I'd rather bring food than head to town. I'll probably bring enough to keep my options open.

I'll send my ph and cell to you. Weather is supposed to be great.

Sorry, I can not have 2 Mikes in my car at once :p

So Welcome Aboard.

But really, I would call my car full with 3 people and gear, I am not bringing the dog so I have enough room.

I will not be able to get out of work before 2:00 or so. Every other Friday is a pain at work and this is one of those.

I will PM directions to my place.

So we don't double up on gear, I will be bringing

large cooler,
2 burner White Gas Stove
Camping Kitchen Gear and such

Will be on low in the crock pot until we leave tomorrow. (Sorry Mike, you will have to smell chili all the way there)

At the moment it is not to hot, but I am giving it time to meld all together and come up in heat as there are 6 anahiems, 8 serano's, 6 chili, 1 thai, and 3 Habenaros in it along with tumeric for color and Penzey's Hot Chili Powder and Cumin for flavor. Salt and Pepper of Course.

pinto, butter and cannalenni beans along with onions, garlic, green pepper and beer. Couple of secret ingrediants that for enough beers I'll tell you.

See you all tomorrow.

My parents live in Wisconsin Rapids, about a half hour from Neilsville, they usually get the same weather as the Twin Cities, just a day later. So judging from our forcast it may rain on Saturday. Are there any other good camping riding places about the same distance?

It looks as if the weather in Cable, WI is not going to be any better. Maybe the system will stall and the rain will be pushed off until monday.

Hmmmm, looking at my bank account, I am not sure I have the funds for this weekend. Looks like I may be staying in the Cities for awhile. The fact that my car just went into the shop doesnt help either. :hit: Happy riding to all!

Im thinking you may have to drive quite a ways to find decent weather. It looks like there is a %30 of rain for most of MN and WI and the temps will be in the high 40s to low 50s. I'll be riding in Red Wing if its not raining.

Looks that way...has anyone done any riding in the Rapid City, SD area? Is it worth the drive out there?

Looks like we are heading to Decorah, IA for the weekend, not Levis as the weather looks like it won't cooperate in WI.

So Where Did You Guys End Up Riding?

We ended up heading down to Decorah, IA. It was an awesome trip! The trails down there are incredible, techical steep climbs, rippin fast downhills, smooth flowing sections, steep challenging sections, they have it all. It is definately worth the drive down there! The bluffs are beautiful as well.

If anyone heads down there, I would definately recommend stopping in at Oneota River Cycles, met the owner, he hooked us up with a map and loop to ride, and he is an awesome guy!

We will definately be heading back next spring for some more happy trails down there!
