Night Ride? The trail should be ok if it stays dry the rest of the week.

If my new lights come in on time, I'll be there!

...I tried the Homebrew light thing, I almost burned down my Garage!

It literally got hot enough to cook a five course meal on.... Guess I need to talk to Bob about how to Tame that Beast!

I'm going to try to make it. 7pm is a little early for me, but I will try. If nothing else, I'll try to catch up with you guys on a second lap or something.

I would like to make this ride. I will be coming back from Des Moines and should be in Eagan around this time.

However, Given the amount of rain today and I will be on the road, I won't be able to check the boards. Would anyone be willing to give me a call to let me know if the ride is on around 6:00pm.

PM me and I will leave my phone Number.

I would really appreciate it.

I've had a few of these mishaps. The best one was when I accidently soldered a short circuit into a big homemade battery pack. When I started seeing smoke, I assumed there was something wrong with my soldering iron. I couldn't find where the smoke was coming from until I saw one of the connecting wires, which was now glowing, and there was nothing that I could do to shut it off. It seemed like an eternity for me to locate my wire cutters and snip the wires while panicking.

If it were not for the failures, we wouldn't appreciate the successes.

Looking promising for a ride tonight, dry and windy yesterday, more of the same today.

Does that mean that we no longer get to watch you crash while trying to get your light running? That's my only chance to catch up.

Here's the standard scenario:

while(true) {
Ted: Somebody lead
John: Somebody else lead.
Everyone else: { }
John: Bob, you go first
Bob goes first.
1/4 mile into the ride, Bob makes his first tiny mistake
12 bikes pass Bob
Nobody sees John or Ted until after the lap
}

See you there.

Does this mean you'll have three lights? Sounds like you are trying to one-up Bob.

Filming,

Ok all, after my terrible showing this year at the movie fest, I am starting early.

I have the helmet cam all set up to see how it does at night witht he light mounted beside it ( can anyone say intereferance!!!) and I also plan on getting some Handheld shots using my hid light as a spot on some of the obstacles and hopefully jumps at night.

My plan is to get footage of riding in minnesota in every month of the year.

Hopefully eveyone will be willing to participate tonight and not just hammer.

More than willing.

Haven't been on the trails much lately. I think someone may need to re-teach me to ride. :eyeroll:

I always notice these things last minute!

I'm going to go get my stuff ready and see if I can make it.

I wonder if my batteries are charged?... :eyeroll:

I think I'd have to go for about 6 HIDs to beat Bob ;)

Apparently they're not. :cryin:

Apparently my charger is dead. I've been running a Maha MH-C777. Anyone have a good idea for a rapid charger at 13.2v?

Batteryspace.com had soem nice shargers cheap.

Don't feel bad, My new HID's were supposed to come in the mail today. They came at about 5:30... By that time I was on my 2nd lap at Theo. I had a great ride there, but not a soul around.

Next week, I'll be there!

...Anyone wanting to Night Ride Sun-Thur next week, Post, I'm Ready!

Ed, sorry your lights gave out. It was nice riding with you for the first quarter mile.

I know everyone wants a high-tech fast charger, but for NiMh, I prefer a dumb slow charger and a measured amount of time. Sometimes the smart chargers get confused and shut down when the batteries are not really full. Slow chargers are more predictable and easier on the batteries. The weaker the charger, the less important it is to pull it off right away.

Once the batteries are fairly full, I plug the charger into a lamp timer, and set it to alternate 1 hour on, a couple hours off. Then the batteries are always topped off and ready to go at a moment's notice.

Last night's ride rocked - thanks everyone for showing up. I have to say the night rides have really made this time of year my favorite for riding..

Quote (and understatement) of the week:

"I have to admit I am pretty hard on bikes..." Bob Shepherd - said while holding one of his busted off egg beaters...

Lamp timers are a great. I use them to 'smarten up' my charger as well.

Great ride last night! I was fighting a pretty good bout of being fat and slow, but it was loads of fun! And I'll re-iterate what John said, fall is definitely my favorite riding season!
