Hillside is temporarily closed due to major storm damage. High winds and heavy rain cause more than 30 trees to fall and major erosion in some parts. We'll be out Sunday at 9am (weather pending). If you have a chain saw please help out. There is a race here next week which might have to be posponed or canceled.

Hillside is now open again. We cleared all the trees and most debris. There is still a lot of stuff on the trail so carful for that. The race next weekend will still go on.

Did a lap today. Trail in OK shape, but a few little mud spots here and there. One tree still down section 2. Must have fallen after the clean up.

Yeah, there is a lot of crap on the trail yet, and some very eroded spots. I'm sure that tree did come down after the trailwork. There will probably be more soon too. A lot of trees are stuck up high yet and will come down at some point.

Hopefully not on my head when I'm winning the race! :crazy2:

Hey Ryan I have a question for you.
Is the Rock Crusher division another version of Clydesdale (200 lbs +) or does it follow the NORBA definition I found online of "Male over 220 lbs" ?
Either way I am in but was curious.
Thanks and see you this weekend.

I also have a question. What is Hilliside like in comparison (both technical and physical) to either a full lap at Leb (Intermediate to X to XX to X and out) or else a full 13 mile loop at Mammoth or The Farm? I've never ridden there and will probably only get to do so once before the race. Thanks.
Hillside is more like Theo, but with hills. Lots of up and down, tighter and twist-ier single track. You'll climb, then on the way down there will be a tight, jamming corner, forcing you to brake off all your momentum, and then there's another climb again. It's a very challenging trail that way, you have to climb every hill, and rarely get to carry speed from a downhill into an uphill. I personally don't like it much, but that's me, I'm a flow guy. It is a great trail though, probably the best trail to ride if you want to get in top physical shape. It's definately got its own flavor. I imagine it makes for a punishing race course!!

I ride Hillside frequently, my lap times are somewhere in 45-47 minute range. Compared to a full mammoth, I would say that mammoth is more draining. However, there is limited recovery time at hillside, you are either climbing, or descending. I really like Hillside, there is good flow once you know the trail, it is tight and twisty like Theo (not quite as tight).
I don't ride leb a lot as it is really far away from my house and always packed, so I can't really compare the lap mentioned above, but when I have rode it I would say that Hillside is definately more physically demanding that Leb.

good. I rode Hillside in the Spring, when I was not in that great of shape and felt reasonably winded. It is tight and hilly, not that technical.
In the parking lot at the entrance there is a more gentle way in and a straight up a 7' high hill. On my second lap I thought that I would try going up the steep entrance. Well, I made it up HALF way. I tried to ride straight backwards...ended up lieing flat on my back. Good thing no one was in the parking lot to snicker.

Anyone know if Hillside is good to ride again after this week's deluge?
