Hey, my name is Nate and I'm a Boy Scout with Troop 449 and mountain bike for the Minnesota Junior Cyclists. I've been mountain biking at Lebanon for, let's see, since before all the improvements started in earnest. I suppose that's about 4, 5 years now. In order to earn the highest rank in Scouting, the Eagle Scout, I need to complete an Eagle Project. An Eagle Project is something done for the benefit of the commmunity that demonstrates my leadership ability. I wanted to combine two of my favorite things, and I approached John Lundell with my idea.

So, on Saturday, September 24th from 12 noon until 5 PM, we'll be rock armoring a section of the downhill exit loop that's riddled with braking bumps. I need big, strong guys to get 700 pounds of flagstone to the work site and place the stuff as well.

If you're coming, please bring:

Work gloves (if you think you need them)
Water bottle (dehydration = bad)
Wheelbarrow (makes moving the rock WAY faster. only if you have one.)
Friends (trailbuilding's fun!)

So, I probably left something out. Feel free to ask questions!

Hey Nate,

I read your proposal several weeks ago. Looks like a good plan. My understanding is that your work will be in exactly the spot where I had my worst crash of the season. I will be checking out the area this week, but unfortunately, I'll be out of town this weekend.

Good luck with your project. It will be a great benefit to the trail. I look forward to riding it next week.

Sounds like a great project Nate. As an Eagle scout myself I would really love to give you a hand but I'm photographing a wedding during the times you have planned. If you don't get it all done on Saturday and need some help on another date let me know.

I always hear people saying they cannot make Tuesday night trailwork but wish we had more weekend sessions... so this is a great opportunity for everyone to come on out for a few hours and help out our trail AND do it for a good cause!

I'm sure many of you are frustrated by the bumps forming on the long downhill (Dream Trail) at Lebanon. We can either armor the trail and keep it, or re-route and lose the nice flowing downhill. The more that come out to help the better the chance we'll keep that sweet section of trail.

Please come out and help a good cause. We'll have brand new MORC "Dirty Work" t-shirts available... and meet Ted of "Ted's Log" fame!

Get out there and support Nate. He has been an asset to the MNJrC team, and now he is out helping the general MTB community. Nice going Nate!!!! Here is a picture of the podium boy:

just an update: we're going rain or shine, and I checked the weather and it says on and off rain all day. no lightning though, so we'll be ok :)

If it starts to lightning or pour we'll have to call it off.. but I think we'll be ok - radar doesn't look too bad.

The project went well today. Nate did a great job leading the crew. A small section of the Dream trail is now armored. This will be a good test to see if this method will hold up. Great job Nate and everyone who attended!
