Anyone know how much one of these can run? In the spirit of the "69er" I'm considering a 4'' front wheel and 2.2'' rear on my single in lieu of a suspension fork.

FYI - the Pugsley fork is offset to hold a rear wheel.

I think I read that on the Surley site ... but my question to that is ... WTF? :) I have no clue what that is supposed to mean about the fork, in other words. Front fork holding rear wheel? Hah?

Is the rear in front feature so you can have a second gearing choice available by swapping wheels?

Throwing at guesses here but I thought it was for expedition riding. If you were to have a problem with one rear (freehub blowing up or something) you could swap out the wheel with your "spare".

The Pugsley is somewhat of a Frankenstein of bikes with some very special attributes. The idea of two rear wheels would satisfy those weirdo singlespeeders who want to have 2 different gear ratios with disk brakes. Swap front and back wheels interchangeably.

As far as your plan, you could use a Surly 1x1 fork (should also clear a nice wide tire too) but it may throw off your geometry and handling of your bike.

The other reason for using a rear is that the new 4" tires were wider than the front hubs. This means that you would have to deflate your tire to get it through the fork dropouts.

Ahhh ... I see. So, there's really no problem with using a Pugsley fork on a regular frame, just remember that the hub will be a rear hub. That's fine, 'cause I figured I would want to put a whole new wheel on the fork anyway to better accomodate the 4'' tire. I had no intention of putting such a huge tire on a conventional rim! Heh ... talk about baloon tires :).
