At the summit this year we continued the tradition started last year and selected a volunteer of the year for 2005.

This year the winner is.....

..... drumroll please....

.....

BOB SHEPHERD! (a.k.a. bigwheel)

There are many many people that could have won this award this year... but Bob stood out for his efforts at multiple trails and his willingness to get involved and take care of our trails. Bob has helped out at Terrace Oaks and at Lebanon this year. He has also been seen wandering the trails out at Leb looking for fallen trees blocking the trail. Whenever I'm out there doing some maintenance it never fails... there's Bob willing to help out. He even stops in the middle of his rides to help out. There are many other great things I could say about Bob...

Congrats Bob, well deserved. That deserves 4!

And to the rest of our volunteers - thanks so much for all your efforts as well. Recognizing one individual is a special thing, but it does not mean that each one of you don't also make a huge difference for MORC and for our trails. You know who you are - pat yourselves on the back as well...

I have only briefly met Bob on the 8am leb ride on saturday. We were riding a long and came across a fairly good sized tree that came down. He was already planning on what time during the day he would have time to get the saw and clear it out. Him and Don were sorta laying claims as to who would get to clean it up. I was very impressed. Thanks Bob for your help and hard work.

Bob Shepard. The man who said "I need to take a day or two off of trail work so I can actually ride the trails I'm working on." No joke - he's the only person I know who does more trailwork than riding!! Mad props Bob. you da man.

When Scott got to the slide discussing the award, I immediately started thinking of all the people who have put in tremendous amounts of labor this year, and how hard John Lundell worked last year earning his well-deserved award. The next slide caught me completely off-guard. I didn't even think my name even belonged on the list of candidates.

Thanks again, everyone. It's been an honor and a privilege to work with you.

I will know I have made the "a" list of trailworkers when I can Pulaski as well as Bob Shepherd. Congratulations! I can't think of a more deserving trailwork superhero.
