ok i had a similar problem to this on my trek but now my p.2 is making some wicked creaking noises whenever i pedal, especially when i really crank on them. i tried tightening the nuts on my cranks and the rings connecting the crankarms to the front cog to no avail. any other ideas what to check to fix this? performance wise i havn't noticed any problems but i dont want to be riding along someday and have something fall off (one of my pedals fell off one night on my trek after not doing anything for a month or two)

If yo P.2 is creaking then specialized needs to do somewith with there cranks.
My hard rock pro had the same problem, what you do is take off the cranks then you'll see a square thing, clean everything first then wrap some teflon tape around the square then grease it up, put the cranks back on and it should be good.:D Whats happening is the cranks are slipping on that square thing which can strip it, it can cause some serios problems.

Make sure that the BB is secure, and check that water hasn't entered the BB shell. That will do it, too. I had a hairline crack on the SS crank, and found it before it snapped. It would start creaking soon after tightening the crank bolts. If you are older than me, check your hips and knees. Lubricate with a dark beer.

The creaking is dirt inside there. Clean everything out as best you can then wrap it up or use silicone to prevent dirt and moisture from getting back in there.
