Ok so my name is alex and i live in a flat part of MN(that info will make sense in a min). This is my first post so bear with me.
I have about an acre and a half of weeds and so i want to make some trails in there. I just started gettin into offroad biking. I liked the jumps for bmx when i was younger and now i want to start gettin air on my mountain bike and i was wondering if anyone had any ideas because i dont got a lot to work with. I have such a small area when it comes to trails and yet i want so much in there because i want it to be like an overall practice course with the jumps which u need speed and i want the thin board bridge things(idk what they are called) which involves control. I also was wonderin if anyone had some pointers or ideas for me.
So yea...i hope nobody got lost in all that. Thanks for any help.

Allright first off the "thin board thingys" are called skinnys.
Second if you want to learn how to make jumps look at the thread Dirt Jumps.
Third, to make trails cut down all the weeds, rake and rake and rake, pack down the dirt, remove everything ie. rocks roots, then follow the instructions to how to make DJ's.
Hope it turns out good:)

Yeah, for as little use as your trail is gonna see, rake and ride is the best technique. As for keeping speed up, build some rollers that you can pump and berm all your turns to keep speed up. As for skinnies, thats up to you as to what to build with/how they will be shaped.

thanks for the help guys...the skinnies i planned on puttin over trenchs that i would dig out and use the dirt for jumps and the rollers and then i wouldnt have useless giant holes around it and thats what i was thinking of when i had them in mind. But anyways thanks again.

With the skinnys you could dig a trench but thats alot of work. I would use some cinderblocks than just bungie cord them on from that. I started skinnys on 2 by 4's. Highly encourage it because then the foot wide skinnys at trails and stuff are then way easier. Start them off at about a foot or two off the ground then move up from that.

If the soil content allows for it, you could move half as much dirt by simply digging a hole, and using that dirt to form a berm or jump to the side. The trail goes THROUGH the hole you dug.
So half your trail is above ground, and the other half is below ground level. But you move half as much dirt, so work half as hard to get the same end result.

thats basically wat i planned on doing because i dont wanna move a lot of dirt.
And if i need more dirt then thats where the skinnies come in because i can dig more holes if needed and then put the 2x4's(actually i was gunna learn on 2x6's cause i have some layin around)ovr the top of the holes.
