We'll meet at the Golf Course Chalet at 10AM... There might be a bonus for those that show up for this group ride...
The Golf Course Chalet is the location on top of the hill (first right turn off road into parking lot- look for sign) where passes are issued and Golfers do their thing...

Again if your there at 10AM and would like to participate, the ride is FREE COMPLIMENTS OF AFTON ALPS...

How was the pre-ride? What was determined about the trail/re-routes?

Larry, Troy, John and the crew have done a fantastic job on the course - there input and hard work is much appreciated - several changes have been made from past years which folks will be happy with - one section was left out (my decision) but for the most part is was left as the group has set it up.

NOTICE TO RIDERS - the 24hour staff goal is to make this course as rideable and safe as possible while still being challenging - even in the current state there are significant technical (and physical) challenges on this course (as always) so ride within your limits get off your bike if you are uncomfortable. During the race if maintenance is needed inform race officials at the start/finish.

See you out there!

The section that was removed from the race course was a little ditty we call the DLA (Duncan-Leo-Alta) Shortcut, named for the 3 children that helped us build it. The section was cut a few weeks ago and features a nice little off camber drop in...

The location is in a tree line right before you get to the grass 180 turn to do the downhill run towards Whistler/ Manhandler climb. It basically bypasses the 180 grass turn.

The shortcut is still open for riding. When you get to it you'll notice a cleaner lead in on the right hand side. So when you get to the graveled path through the tree line stay on the high side around the trees. You'll then see the line over a pipe/ log combo leading you straight down the drop...

Enjoy... It's a little fun for the pain (whistler/ manhandler) that is to come...

When I pre-rode last week, I measured 7.2 miles per lap. Is that about right?

Yes Jeff, that is real close to what I have on my GPS when I walked the course.

With all the changes that were implimented lap times should run about the same as previous years...

Magic, Afton Gully/ Grand Canyon technical bypass option-
I timed myself in both the singletrack and grass bypass. We'll need to have a pretty good maze in place to keep both options even on time.

For those wondering what I'm talking about, we have discussed having an alternate grass line bypass for the singletrack after Afton Gully, I think this section is referred to as the "Grand Canyon". The actual gully or canyon is to the left of the trail, not part of the trail. The singletrack has been in place for years, but might be intimidating for a beginner rider/ racer... We've recently armored the trail with rocks so it remains sustainable... Please stay on the rocks, they don't bite...

Get out and ride Afton, you wont regret it... If you see a guy running around like mad on a 4 wheeler give him a wave... That's John aka "Taz", the guy who has helped us make this happen...

Larry..Too bad DLA got nixed...would have been fun to watch the "off-roadies" struggle through:angry: . Seriously though, it's probably a good decision, it's fun but maybe not the 10th time around or in the middle of the night:zzz: .

Thanks for all the work out there.
