Yeah... we're all mountain bikers.
I'm sure there are a couple motocrossers in the bunch though.

Yeah, tail whips are when the bike goes all the way around the handlebars, I don't think you could do that on a MX bike unless you have a serious giro.:)
Unless your thinking of an different type of tailwhip.

For some reason MXers started calling kickouts tailwhips. The real term, at least from BMX and the older MX days is kickout. It's when you swing the rear wheel out to the side and it is usually slightly or fully tabled (layed flat). A tailwhip on a BMX bike is when you literally whip the entire rearwheel and frame around the handlebars while still holding the bars and being no footed while you wait for the bike to finish a complete 360 around the headtube.
So, I am always cofused by why a kickout is now called a tailwhip to MXers and some freeriders. Oh well....no big deal.
I never did learn to do a BMX tailwhip in the air. I can do them on flatground while flatlanding (form of BMX freestlye where it's just you, your bike, and a parking lot). The airborn ones are very tough and yeah......lots of crashing to learn that one.
