Semi-interesting article. One quote in particular: ...estimated Trek's sales have increased from less than $50 million in 1990 to $500 million this year.

Its not only Trek but the cycling industry as a whole that has grown since Lance began to give "ball sport" Americans and others a taste of riding. You dont hear Lemond much anymore, I always hear Lance. He's been great for cycling in America and world wide as far as I am concerned, even though Im a Jan fan

Did you notice the name of the spokesman quoted in the story?
I guess we'll see how much it grows after Lance retires this year, and there isn't an American on the top of the podium next year. Then cycling will become "just another goofy European sport" again.

As I was drifting off to sleep this morning I caught a little bit of Tommy B and the morning dorks on KQ spewing about road bikers and how they can't wait until Lance is done so these road idiots will go back to doing something else. The ignorance was astounding.
When you are big as he is you need to discourage other people from excersizing to keep yourself in the majority.

to the KQ Morning show. Ignorant comments shouldn't be too surprising.

count out another American from finishing on the podium in the next few years.
That said, how could you possibly top LA's story or name? I mean, how great of a name is Lance Armstrong for a pro athlete? It's effing perfect.
Floyd, Bobby, George, David...just don't inspire me. LA is a once in a generation rock star/celeb/athlete and will carry a lot of marketing pull for a long time.
He is even quoted somewhere saying that he has no plans to get fat "like Lemond".
