Is next weekend (July 30-31) a possibility? I happen to have a kitchen pass (wife has to work), and was looking to bike somewhere different. Nigel, Tedsti and TheBuckthornKiller were also possibly interested in going somewhere.
I can't make it Friday night, but would like to head out on Saturday morning and come back Sunday eve. I'd be interested in camping somewhere, or alternatively, we could stay at my cabin, which is a little over an hour away.
We were thinking of Levis, but Duluth might be another interesting option.

If I bring the SS, it will be in addition to my FS gearie. Until I add a springy fork, I'm not taking it on anything scary.

Nice socks, Jay.
This weekend, I brought my rigid SS up north and got in a nice long ride on Saturday doing 4-wheeler and fire trails. No question, it is a fun bike. Lightweight and simple. However, I don't like the way it rides on bumpy terrain, and don't want to do another crash like I did 2 weeks ago. Plus, my fingers go numb on it -- something that doesn't happen on my other bike. I've given it a fair chance. The bike will stay as a SS, but I'm adding a front shock.
Just because there are others on rigids doesn't mean I have to ride one. I saw a couple guys at Leb on Unicycles, but I don't plan to do that either.
I should have my forks this week (used - eBay). However, I'll also have to convert to disc, because the new forks don't have V bosses. That'll take another week or so.
If there is room for a second bike, I'll bring the SS, but only as a second bike for the smoother stuff.

Okay, so the plan is to do something this weekend. Either Duluth or Levis (or other) are fine with me. I have never ridden either.
I have other committments on Friday night, but the rest of the weekend is open for me. I can take two other people + bikes comfortably in my mini-van. (possibly three others if we cram stuff.)
I too am busy Friday night. Being transportationally impaired, I will also have to rely upon the kindness of strangers ( or strange mountain bikers. )

You could always travel 2 1/2 hours south and hit Memorial in redwing, Holzinger and cherry hill in Winona and Human powered park in La Crosse. Some amazing riding to be had.

Well, as far as I know, Spirit is more for the avid downhiller, sure it has both, but I think it's pretty downhill dominated. Levis, on the other hand, is an epic ride...with 30 plus miles of trail....can go all day and still not ride them all! SO I do have to say I hope ya'll decide to go down there with us! I have a truck that I can probably get at least one other bike in besides mine and my bud's but as far as people go, it's only a two seater. So I can help with bikes and/or gear, but that's all I can offer! I could also do the same for going to spirit if that's what ya'll decide, I just have my heart set on levis is all!! lol But I am a new guy here, so I probably have a lil less influence than others! But we also need to find a place and time to all meet up regardless of where we go....so we should talk about that too.

oh man are you mis-informed! There is killer singletrack up there, the DH trail has only been there for a year, the XC stuff has been there for way looonger and they just added some new stuff. You could spend a day at either spot, but I just want to make it clear that there is unbelievable XC stuff up at Spirit, way tougher then anything in the cities alot more rough and tumble!

Hi!
I'm new to mtb scene here in MN. Most familiar with the trails in the twin cities. I have heard of Spriit Mtn and Lutsen but not sure what Levi's is or where it is located.
Please clarify for a newbie?

as buck sez, you are wrong...
if there is a ride this wkend up here [after all that is the topic of the thread, you hijackers], we will meet at my house, ride hartley and some of the stuff around here, and then head out to spirit if that's what y'all want. spirit is a big loop/race course and i'm not familiar w/ the newer stuff.
re:the dh at spirit, i don't have a big bike sooo, if that's what you wanna ride, you're on your own....
a ss or hardtail will suffice on the trails around here. 4"+ fs or bighit is kinda overkill, but ride what ya got.

Jordan, by "ride with you" do you mean you want to carpool from the cities, or do you mean to participate in the bike ride? Either one or both is fine, but I see your location as being Duluth, so I assume you are not looking for a carpool. (If we end up going to Duluth)
BTW, I'm planning to bring my gearie for this ride, so you won't be the only one.

Sounds good to me, especially since we have a gracious host to show us the trail.
Does anyone have any suggestions for Saturday night? I'm up for camping, or we can all head over to my cabin, which is about 1 1/4 hours away.
I don't have any suggestions on where to camp, but since my tent is still drying in the lizardroom, I'd be up for camping somewhere. Camping is fun and reuse sure beats the heck out of putting my camping gear away.

I would like to Kurt, and still mean to make it up one of these weekends, but after being gone so much recently and being so busy, I just need a weekend at home to give the Puppy Dog the attention she deserves, and do quite a bit of work on the house, garage and garden.

Yes
Ok, I MIGHT be late(er). My truck tires need a rotation, balancing, and alignment BAD. Looked at the tires and they are wearing very odd in the front. So, I'll stop by some place and do that. Shad, I have your number, and you have mine so I'll call you if I'll be late. Oh, for anyone else, my cell is 763-498-1132. I'm also bringing two bikes, my FS isn't keeping air very well in the rear... See you all in Duluth!

Kurt (and Cousin Jay)
Thanks for showing us around. It was a great ride. Also thanks for the hospitality, letting us trash your shower and grill.
Good thing my bike waited until the ride back before deciding to break.

GF warranty dept. is really going to get to know you.... At least the Surly shouldn't let you down.

They already know me:embarass:
The part that sucks is that I didn't even crash this weekend (although I did chicken out on a bunch of obstacles). I can keep upgrading components, but there's nothing I can do when the frame breaks. I'm really thinking that my next FS trail bike is going to have a freeride frame. Maybe a Lenz Sport Behemouth?
