Just wanted to say hi to everyone and say thanks to the MORC crew and other posters for the great resources on this website.
I am pretty new to Mountain Biking and this site has really helped get me started in the right direction.
I actually rode Theo Wirth Last night and it was a blast. I was a little shakey at first, but started to get the hang of it and now I am hooked! If I didn't have 2 little kids to look after, I would be out every night! lol
I guess I better become a member and give a little back then :)
I am up for group rides, especially new trails (which are pretty much all of them for me!)

no wonder you are new to mountain biking, Nodak has no mountains to bike, (excluding of course the badlands and such, but mentioning that would wreck everyone's stereotype of the flat barren wasteland that nodak has come to represent.)

...small world. I know several people in Devil's Lake ND. My family used to farm that area and now my uncle uses the farmstead as a hunting lodge. Ahhh, personally I love that arid place ...err used to be arid. :etard:

Well, I guess we will have to do a group ride with all Nodaks! It would have to be a trail without to many hills though! :laugh:

The Deamons, the Satans, the Sioux. What the h#ll do other states think of us!

Class of 88 btw for me! I know, I am an old man.

While going to college at Moorhead State I had to laugh at the image Minnesotans had of ND and vice versa.

Everyone from each state said the same thing: "YOUR state is so flat!"

Clarification: the Red River Valley is FLAT on both sides of the border. So, if you're from ND and you've barely been much farther past Moorhead or E. Grand Forks ... or if you're from MN and you've barely made it much past Fargo ... you're both wrong. :)

Factoid I always point out: MN's highest point is Eagle "Mountain" at just over 2,300 feet. I have family in Montana that gets sideaches from laughing when I tell them that.

ND's highest point is called White BUTTE (pronounce it "butt" if you wish) and it tops out well over 3,700 ft. At least MY home state has the common decency and humility not to BS ourselves into thinking we've got mountains. We've got BUTTES and big hills that tower over the "mountains" of MN.

Get out to Jamestown and all points West. Bismarck has some MTB trails that'll make you feel out-of-shape after riding Leb and Theo all the time. :)

Before moving to Bismarck for 9th grade I spent 1st through 8th grade in Solen, ND right on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. We were the Solen Sioux. Unlike UND, however, it was less a mascot and more just a description of the student body ... except for white kids like me :). "Hut-dah, hey. You're whiter than my socks!"

(let's see if anyone here perks up at the sound of the phrase "hut-dah")

I got pretty damn lucky with the mascots through my schooling. All pretty bad@ss:
* Solen Sioux
* Hughes Jr. High Huskies (the only LAME one ... but only for 9th Grade.)
* Bismarck Deamons
* U of Mary Marauders (why they weren't the Saints like every other school named after Mary is beyond me)
* Moorhead State Dragons

Guess I have to comment too. Left NoDak 12 years ago after living there for my entire life before coming to MN. Can't wait to get back to:

1 No traffic
2 Ride my moto cross anywhere I want
3 Build new trails
4 A place where no one gives me crap about not paying enough taxes
5 A legislature that actually gets their job done on time!
6 Being able to see the stars from my front yard!

Actually MN has been great too but it is hard to take that part out of my life and not miss it.

Tim

Funny how you meet a lot of people "from" ND, but very few that live "in" ND.

Kinda sad - last time I was home, I found out they're going to close the school I went to in a couple of years leaving 1 for the whole county (Langdon).

And I still say that a large company could save a lot of $ by "outsourcing" to rural areas in the US rather than going to India...

I used to work with and am still in contact with a guy from Devil's Lake, Jeff Klemmetsrud. Know of him or his family?

The STrib or Fargo Forum just did a piece about that concept recently -- "outsourcing" IT work to rural areas where there aren't many people, but there is a strong interest in job growth and employing people locally. The wages (compared to other areas) are of course dramatically lower, but it gives folks a chance to live in a low-cost place while keeping their job. For some, it's apparently a good fit!

Born in Fargo, but left when I was 2. I was way ahead of all of you. My Mom is from Bismark and my Dad is from Larimore. We moved around alot so we were the Nomads from Nodak.
