Do you feel frustrated or annoyed by threads that change topic rapidly and "thread-hijacking"?
Tetreves
06-28-2005, 10:22 PM
I hope this isn't too innappropriate.
But I feel that this has been an ongoing issue with some people. I think maybe we do it so often and rapidly because we're a relatively small group of people (unlike MTBR) and know each other well enough to change topics and MOST people know what we're talking about.
But when the discussion being had has absolutly nothing to do with the thread title, it can be annoying for many people.
Or maybe it's not that big of an issue for most people.
Thoughts?

I dont really mind at all if a thread gets hijacked for a little bit. I tend to bump in if one of my threads gets off course and try to steer it back a little.

I voted I don't care. I think "I don't care" and "no" are the same thing....:)
It only bothers me if it gets way off topic and ruins the thread, which I have seen a few times. But, I am amazed at how well we self regulate and don't get too out of hand. There are enough people here that will step in and say something if they are bothered, and that is a good thing.
I am guilty of thread hijacking, but I usually know it and will even mention I am going off topic sometimes. Others have done a good job bringing threads back on topic if it gets out of hand. Compared to most forums I have seen, MORC is very good about this.....and we don't even have to be moderated much.

A ride around Calhoun on a hot night is a must for anyone! The rain is good for this. Trails are wet, it's hot, gotta ride, why not include a few laps around Calhoun? I like this weather by the way. We haven't had much of this in the past few years. I like the idea that this thread has been completely hijacked too! Nice job, ppgc!

I just bought a set of NanoRaptors. That's the last piece I need to install (tonight) before I am also a stupid rider riding a new stupid single speed (Karate Monkey) that I just built up. That'll be the only bike I'm brininging on vacation with me next week, so it will be trial by fire.

I am a big fan of the Maxxis Larson TT's for XC. I also have the Maxxis Holy Rollers and they work very well on the dirt with very little rolling resistance. Tires with tall side lugs are my enemy.....so I suggest one of these two.

Don't remember, but I think I paid around $34 each for them. After looking them over, I'm considering putting them on my good bike, and continuing the hand-me-down build up of the KM.
I'm starting to question Bontrager ACX Jones that I'm running on my GF. They seem to clog up when in any kind of mud, and they look like they would be slower on hard-pack. Anyway, they need replacing, so this might be my chance.

I started running a Bonty ACX up front, and a Nano in back. This combination seems to work really well on the hardpack trails. The ACX gives pretty good cornering grip, and the Nano reduces rolling resistance nicely. This setup also handled some trails/logging roads that were in less than pristine conditions on the "mountain biking" leg of the Chippewa Triathlon a couple weeks back. It seems to me a nice all around setup.

Yes, I know. The two places where I've noticed mud on my tires are:
1: Poaching snowmobile trails in Savanna Portage State Park (lots-o-mud)
2: Thursday night Buck Hill races (more like mush, not mud)
Speaking of rain, I just stepped out for a few quick laps around Terrace Oaks, but after seeing the rain, I ran back to read about bikes, rather than actually use one.

Speaking of generators, has anyone ever tried a hub dynamo? I've been trying to justify the purchase or at least get it passed my wife's objections. Sometimes it's so hard to justify bicycle related expenditures. Sometimes, all I have to do is compare my bike expenses to a bill from the salon though.
