We have some clinics and events that can help you get the most out of your summer. The Minnesota Orienteering Club's adventure race is accessible for almost any aspiring racer. The rail trails of Minnesota and western Wisconsin offer fascinating ways to explore the lesser known areas of the upper Midwest. Bicycle columnist and guidebook writer, Doug Shidell, will take you on a tour of the trails. Doug's recently published third edition of the Bicycle Vacation Guide: Minnesota and Wisconsin is a great resource for planning cycling getaways within 4-5 hours of the Twin Cities. Doug will share tips, stories and insights into how to plan and make the most of your bicycle vacation.

Expert instructors from Paddle Masters Coastal Kayaking School will present information on the skills and equipment needed to be a safe sea kayaker. They will tell you how to choose your first sea kayak, properly fit your PFD, and size a paddle. An American Canoe Association video will cover the basics and you will be introduced to the three strokes all paddlers need to know. Paddle Masters also offers a comprehensive informational packet for $15.00 (optional).

An introductory climbing class taught by a certified Vertical Endeavors instructor. Participants will learn about equipment, knot tying, belay technique, rope work, climbing commands, and safety issues.
The course is $20 for REI members, $30 for non-member and includes the use of climbing shoe and harness. Classes are offered from 6 PM - 9 PM. All students must be at least 14 years of age. Advanced registration and payment is required.

Mission: Backcountry Trail Patrol is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting trail users and natural resources through service and backcountry safety education. They are members of the National Mountain Bike Patrol, but uniquely act as a combination trail patrol, trail care and advocacy organization for mountain bike and ski trails in the Chippewa National Forest, Birch Lake and Sand Dunes State Forests.
