So I don't know if this is the right forum for reporting theft, but... I had 2 mountain bikes stolen off the roof of my car in Northeast Minneapolis last night. A Specialized stumpjumper FSR XC (yellow) and a Santa Cruz Superlight (midnight blue). I guess if you see anything like those and you don't know the rider or it's sitting in a corner somewhere, ask the rider about it. I'd appreciate any help.
I had them in Thule big mouth trays, and the trays are trashed, whoever stole the bikes just basically pulled them out of the trays.
They didn't get my single speed so looks like I'm a full-time single speeder now.
Thanks,
Chope

That sucks. I'll keep my eyes out in the Eagan area. Did you have them locked?

That really does suck.. I worry about my bikes on the roof rack when I'm downtown/out after a ride, if it's just when I go in to get something to eat/drink not so much, but any real time, and I'm just not down with it.
Though my blur survived last year at Grand Ol'Day (Biked at Battle Creek early before it).
Wish there was more you could do to keep 'em safe..
Will your insurance cover any of it?
Good luck - I hope you find them,

This sucks, i've had 2 bikes stolen in the last 3 years, I feel your pain, I hope you find 'em.
The police departments in Minnesota recently installed a new software program that tracks stolen items that find their way into pawn shops. The software uses a shared database that all departments can access. I would ask them [police] about this.
That sucks!
I'll keep my eye out for them.

Make sure you do report it to the police. They can't and really don't do much about it, but statistics are everything. If they have the stats, it's a better chance they will see a problem and try to do something about it. As for, NE, N, and S MPLS, I would be sure and keep a really good eye on your stuff. Not that it won't happen anywhere else, but it is a lot more likely to happen in those three areas on MPLS.

Thats sucks a$$! Where in NE? I am at 8th Ave and 4th ST, a block off University and Broadway. I routinely leave my 1x1 on top of my car overnight, worst I have had happen is passers-by putting Surly stickers on my akima wind fairing. Guess I'l lbe rethinking that strategy....
In any case, sorry to hear. If you need an SS partner, PM me.

If you have renters or home owner insurance I would put a claim in for it I know one Of my friend had renters insurance and they paid for the bike he just purchased and the bike he was trying to sell

Didn't have my bikes stolen but my whole car last night. Police have already found it and its been stripped. I'm hoping they were nice thieves and left the stuff that was in the trunk in there (my helmet camera and mount and some paintball gear). Fingers crossed when I head down to the impound lot tonight.

Weak!
Sorry to hear about that. Where was it stolen from? (Just so others can be cautious)

It was stolen right in front my girlfriend's house in the Lake Phalen area. I would imagine whoever stole it was looking for certain used parts from a Honda Civic based on the fact that her roommate bimmer was right across the street and went untouched.
Maybe I need an alarm or the club or something from now on.

I thought that was a relatively nice area, too.
Sorry to hear about that...
I highly recommend a flashing LED attached to a 9V battery with a switch. You can probably find a real simple circuit for this on the internet, and can make it for less than $10. You need an LED, a resistor, and a capacitor. Easy.
I think a flashing red light inside the car is the best theft deterrent EVER (short of a really big guy with a bat).

Yeah the neighborhood around there is kind of hit or miss. Both of the police officer shootings this past year have been within a mile from us and if you walk a few blocks in the wrong direction ya end up in a bad area but nothing outrageous. I imagine they just happened to see my car and tagged it to be stolen some night.
I've got a nice blinking light like that on my toolbox as a joke. Probably better suited in my car instead. I'm curious as to what shape its in when I get down there tonight.

Bummer about your bikes dude... I actually work for a local police department, and while I am not familiar with the system one poster mentioned above (pawn shops system), it is a good idea to get that theft reported and have Mpls PD enter the serial numbers into NCIC. If you have the serial numbers, specifically ask them to make an NCIC entry, or a place like Mpls may not do it. I know any bikes stolen in the city I work for get entered, and any recovered bicycles we get we run through NCIC. Hope it works out for ya... I know your pain!! My Trek was stolen about 3 years ago...

Scott, sorry to hear about your car.
If you get an alarm make sure you get one with an ignition cut off, atleast that way they won't get your car. As far as an alarm keeping them out of your car don't count on it!!
After my wife's car was stolen we had an alarm put in it and about a year later it was broken in too with the alarm on. I think they know by the time the police get there they will be long gone.
You also have to watch out for the impound lot. They told my wife her car was completely stripped and would'nt even bother coming down and getting it. When we got down there the only thing missing was the wheels and stereo system.

Greg,
Yeah went down and visited the impound lost last night. The vehicle is pretty well stripped. Lights front and rear, some of the engine, pretty much the whole dash, two wheels, all the honda decals and a few other things. Was able to pull out a few items of mine that were in the trunk but they took pretty much everything of value including my full face helmet/video camera mount which sucks.

OH man that royally sucks rocks. That was a pretty pimp setup you had for a helmet cam. I actually busted someone trying to boost my stereo out of my jeep down here in winona. I heard my alarm go off and I ran my ass down the three flights of stairs and to see them taking a crowbar to my dash to get at my deck. I had grabbed my Maglight and shined them in hopes of scaring them off. They ran and I didn't feel like chasing them down the street in my boxers barefoot. All in all nothing was taken and I was left with a trashed front dash. I have since done a much better job of stealthing my subs, amps and always pull my face to my deck.

The car thing pretty much sucks. If they do end up totaling the car out not sure what kind of car I want to get next. It would suck to have another Honda get stolen. Anyhow keeping with the theme of threads being off topic did I mention that I got my new camera? I picked up the 20D, a 17-40L f4, 70-200L f2.8 and a 550ex flash.
Still learning the ins and outs of it but figured I had enough time on it to shoot a wedding this past weekend (I put a few images on my website http://www.scottharaldson.com/weddings/palmer_show/ ). Still have my Nikon gear which I kept in the trunk just in case anything crapped out.
So if ya know anyone that needs a wedding shot tell em to look me up while I'm still cheap :D

the coche. That's the only problem with Hondas. There's too many of them and they run too damn well. I was always shocked at the insurance rates on our old Accord...it was because they were stolen for chop-shops so frequently.
Not to get OT - but you gotta look at total cost of ownership. I hope they let you get totalled and give you a decent amount of $ to get something different. That blows.
You want to buy and well kept, hopped-up WRX wagon?

I had a look at your pictures of Andy's wedding. Beautiful work my man! I'll have to check with my sister to see if she has a photographer nailed down yet. Unfortunately I think she does, but if not, I'll recommend you in a heartbeat.

They are also super easy to break into. My stereo faceplate and other assorted items were "liberated" from my car this past winter. Once I saw how the theives got in I wonder why I even bothered to lock it.
Getting your car broken into/stolen/stuff stolen off of sucks. Sorry to hear you guys had to go through that.
I have a friend with a soft top Jeep and he always leaves it unlocked. He says, "Better to have them open the door and look around then have them cut through the top or windows." Makes sense to me. Damn cars.

Mark - I've seen your bike on your car. My bikes were stolen near 23rd and 6th, north of you - near Gasthoffs.
Yup, no renter's insurance (stupid me) and car insurance doesn't cover things not permantently attached to the car apparently.
Thanks for the tip on the NCIC police report thing - whoever posted it. I'll try and do that.
