Hey, why don't you come over to my place and we'll watch it on MY big screen? No entry fee, and no smuggling required :D

Ed

That's a much better idea. How about ALL the pivotal -mountain and time trial- stages?

I'll bring over a big rack o' spare ribs.

I like that idea. But with my schedule I may not be here for all of them.

We'll see how it goes when it comes closer to the time

Sounds like a great idea! Either place would be fun. I'll be out of town on vacation for the first two weeks of the tour but if any gathering happens after the 16th, I'm game. I'll volunteer some food as well. Just smoked a brisket yesterday for the first time. 11 hours on the smoker and it turned out d@mn fine. It was consumed last night with a nice Zinfandel. It'd make a nice complement to Marks ribs. :)

I'd be in for some of that if I can jam it into my schedule. I will just have to make sure not to watch the live coverage for that day. :)

I can provide the adult beverages along with some marinated grilled potatoes and portobello mushrooms, along with alot of other good side fare.

I won't have any Homebrew to Provide, But I should be able to make a run to Blue Max or over to Hudson and pick up a good supply of Summer beers.

Wait...that's on a Saturday. Who wants to watch it live vs. repeats?

It looks like it starts at 7:30 AM, with repeats at 1:30, 4:00, and 7:00. I'm not sure that's accurate, though, as no one seems to be posting their TV listings that far in advance :eyeroll:

I mean, c'mon! I'm trying to plan my life out around watching TV!

Ed are you sure?

Since the team and OLN are both owned my Discovery I am guessing we might get a little HiDef Broadcasts on DiscoveryHD...

ok I just checked... looks like they are going to have a bunch of background stuff on lance but no tour coverage... oh well

SuperClydesdale

I think I'll have to make 2 racks of ribs (minimum), especially since Troy is cheesing out on this ;o)

Seriously. You'd think they would have HD coverage on Discovery, but NooOOOooo. Stuck with SD on OLN. What the crap?

Doesn't OLN just pick up the official Tour feed like every other network in the world? It's not like each network gets their own helicopter and motorcycles - they all get the same feed and then just announce to it. Now if the feed is in HD and they are down converting it  .
Otherwise I guess they could shoot Bobke in HD and upconvert everthing else, but would it really look any better?

That's probably pretty accurate. But if you upconvert from SD to HD, often they'll chop the image to get the aspect ratio. So in that case, it's worse than it could be in SD, but it wouldn't have to be by much. Meanwhile, you're only looking at an announcer in HD, and the rest of the race in SD, so gives a rip? I want the WHOLE thing in HD.

watching Chasing Lance on DisHD as well as OLN/FIT in SD.

The HD appears to be a true 16:9 vs a chopped 4:3.

I'd be happy to host some kids to watch the race in HD - grilled meats and all.

Discovery's really good about their HD. It's pretty decent. You can take one of the other stages if'n you want.

Ed,

Do you have a 30 person theater in your house? How many people ya got coming over now?

Ummm....no.

I have a nice home theatre. Only seats about 5-8 on couches. We can pull chairs in no problem. There's enough room.

Plus a second living room upstairs with another couch and a bunch more chairs.

The upstairs TV is 32" 16:9. Downstairs is a 61" plasma. (Used to be an 84" 4:3 projection, but who can pass up a 61" plasma?) :eyeroll:

New furniture is in the plans for the theater, once we repaint. It's really designed for a small number of people to watch a movie (and it's really good), but it's easy to cram a medium number of people in. We've had some decent sized parties before.

It'd be easy to put 10-ish people in each room (so 20 total).

The list of actual confirmed RSVP's is something like this:

Mark
James
Pat
Dirk
Will
Ty

So we still have lots of room.

DMonkey

Should be a good time, maybe we can get a decent ride in before hand (though off-road, this is the MORC board after all)..

At the risk of going off topic, back to the original topic. My wife and I went to this showing last year and it was a blast. We have already bought our tickets for this year. It is a little pricey, but for a good cause. There was one big advantage to seeing it at the theatre over seeing it on TV. NO COMMERCIALS. And during the commercial time you got live footage with no commentary.
Sounds like you all have a fun time planned out, but for anyone thinking about going to the movies to see it, I found it to be a lot of fun.

Enjoy
