Greetings all you two wheeled terrors. HE HE HE. I just got great news from the City Of Red Wing Public Works. They will be dropping of the lumber very soon. I'll keep people updated on the progress of the project. The official build day will be Saturday July 2nd. Everyone is welcome to join us on that day. To give you some what of an idea what this will be like. You currently go down in the revine and have only one way out. We now have a reroute cut but we just need the bridge. You will go down the revine and see a bridge overhead linking to another trail. This project is very important to us as it will allow for us to rotate trail usage. Plus the cool factor will be pinging the needle at overdrive. WOW. Thanks, Gus:banana: :crazy2: :D :) :scream:

Just a little bit excited

Yes I did. I'm not sure if I'll be able to attend. I'll need to look at it again.

Gus,

I'm guessing there will be a nice pile of green treat. Where will the pile o' lumber get dropped off? If it's up on top kinda where walkers/disenchanted youth could see it let me know when it gets dropped off. I'll volunteer to help get it from point A to point B before some greedy yokal (spelling?) decides they could use an addition to their deck. Just let me know.

Unrelated note: I'm wimping out of the ride tonight. Anything above about 90 degs makes me cry.

Isaac,

Cool thanks. I gave the public works a map with a "X" marks the spot. The spot is at the entrenxe to the revine section before the 3 jumps.

Greetings all. Well the birdge supplies are in the park. The public works crew put them in the perfect spot. We plan on starting at 9:00 A. M. We will meet at the race start/finish area. After gathering up we will proceed to the build site. I'ld like to be done with the build by 1:00 P. M. This is open to anyone who wishes to join, I hope to see you there.

I had to cut out after the deck of the bridge was completed (railing still to be added), but the project is really looking cool. I won't give away any surprises, and Gus or Kris will probably have pictures tonight or later, but it will more than likely be easily rideable by all, even though Porter couldn't touch the bottom of it from the trail that passes underneath. Thanks Kris, Gus, Brian, Porter and Michelle. Now, what will it be named?

Isaac, you're the best. Thanks for all of your hard work yesterday! We got the bridge completed but we have to let the concrete footings set up for today yet. Anyone interested in an afternoon ride tomorrow should shoot our a PM today. My thought right now is a 2 p.m. ride tomorrow afternoon where we can get the bridge ridden a couple of times.

We've got pictures on Gus' camera right now that will be posted tomorrow at the latest (Gus has some computer issues right now that he's working on). The structure is pretty amazing, though and I'm excited for everyone to see it! And yes, in answer to what I am sure people will be asking, the bridge will be part of the race loop for the Muddy River Rock n Roll!

The name will be kept a secret for right now until we get the sign up. I think everyone will enjoy it, though. Especially Chuck Berry fans!

Thanks again to yesterday's crew: Isaac, Porter, Gus, Brian, Michelle, Mindy, and Gus's sister and brother and law who provided sandwiches! Also thanks to Rob and Mara for the great comments as they were out riding the trails.

So it's official. Gus and I went up on Memorial Bluff today to check the concrete footings for the bridge. They're solid! This means that the bridge is officially open for traffic! It's pretty unbelievable to ride. It's totally solid and with the railings it has none of the fear factor involved in some other bridges around. Some may not like that, but we needed this to be something all levels of rider can ride as we will have a beginner trail and expert trail all dumping into the same approach to the bridge. We figure that the addition of this structure allows us to use 1.5 miles of single track that were unused once the quarry trail came onto the scene.

Here's a tease photo. The rest can be viewed at www.muddyriverrace.com (http://www.muddyriverrace.com) on our image gallery. Enjoy and please let us know what you think once you have a chance to ride it!

I rode monday to see the finished product and the railings look great guys. I felt bad that I had to duck out after getting the decking done but waiting for batteries to charge is like waiting for paint to dry. Ha ha ha! The bridge is very impressive and I look forward to actually riding it. We rode teh quarry and then headed up that new climb back up to the bridge. WOW Gus....thats a tough climb. Hopefully it will get a little better once it gets ridden more. Adam and I did not ride the bridge due it being taled off, but we did get some pics up on the bridge. I'll try to post them this week. I will be down in RW for a wedding this weekend. I should be up for a ride on saturday morning (7/9/05) if anyone is interested.

Porter. Hey thanks for the help. The climb is tough. I felt we needed one technicall climb. But I know the power of the Wolfchimp will get you up there. Are you racine it this year?

Got down to Red Wing yesterday on my day off. The trail just keeps getting better every year!

So what is the "correct" way to ride the bridge? What I did was come in from the top and hit those jumps then went under the bridge - down the ravine into the quary and then climbed back out on the new section that was cut, crossed the bridge and then stayed up on the right side and rode the "old" singletrack out.

Like Porter said, that new climb out the quary is a killer!!!! By my third lap I was baked!

Great work guys!

Oh yeah I'm racing it this year! I had to work last year and that was the only thing that kept me away. If the three climbs are in there this year (golf course side, stairway and the new one out of the quarry)....its gonna be a killer! Always fun though. I plan to help set up on that saturday too.

Thanks! What are you going to do with the other climb out of the quary? Any way to work that back in to a loop?

gus man

There is a way to work that back into the loop just shortly after the bridge. However this year the race will be on the upper trail back to the finish/lap line. "Lay Down Sally" trail. The main reason for the bridge was to encourage rotation of trail usage and to give riders an option.

Thanks for the info Gus and keep up the great job on the trails! I love making the trip down there - well worth the hour drive.
