Just a reminder to all, Thursday is trail work day at Afton. Meet at the clubhouse between 5:00 and 5:30. If you come late sign in at the clubhouse, there is a sign in book on the counter, if you don't see it, just ask and someone will get it for you. The book will tell you where we will be working and you can come and find us or get mt number from the clubhouse and call and we'll get you to us. Hope to see some of you trail riders out there moving dirt.

Troy & Others,
I'll be there tonight ~5PM, ready to buff out the new sections, start working the slalom section, build wall or the moster log crossing... Some good stuff in the works... Just think what we'd get done with a little help...

I might put in some time this weekend too... I'll probably ride & work the new trails tomorrow (Friday)...

I can't wait to get the slalom section roughed in... It's gonna be as sweet as we want it to be... All it will take is some time and a little effort...

Trail work day at Afton is on Thurday night. We could use some help if you have some spare time. I hear everyone talk but it is the same people out doing trail work. I know we are trying to share people with Salem for the same work night, but there are more of you that can come out to help. Thanks to Bill last week for coming out to do trail work, hope to see you out there again.

AFTON TRAIL WORK
We meet at the clubhouse at 5:30 and work till we can't work no more. We have a full plate of things that we need to get done before the 24 hour race. Come out and move some dirt. These trails can only get better with workers doing the work. Hope to see some new faces and Larry, John and myself will continue the good fight.

10-4 on Thursday... I swapped messages with John, he is going to attempt to get some logs in place for the crossing... Looks like we'll be moving logs and or building it up...

Maybe we can get a start on the 1st bermed turn. John has some rock staged for armoring... We'll need to find a spot to dig up some black dirt for building... We might find some soil to use real close with John's permission...

The only fight is with those who complain about trails, but choose to do nothing about it... I've been one of those people in the past myself.... That's just my opinion. Heckler35- use your mattocks as you see fit... Just take it easy on the Goat he's still in hiding probably until the 24... Jack is AWOL also...

Thursday night, 5:30PM meeting at the Clubhouse, if you can't make it by then we'll be down working the new sections above the Meadows Chalet.

More than likely we'll be building a log crossing to get over a section of water pipes. This will be a nice feature leading from the fresh cut sections of singletrack into the slalom section.

New people that are curious and would like to get involved your more than welcome to give us a hand...

24 Hour crowd this is for you...

Tonight hopefully we'll finish the log crossing over the water pipes... Bill & Greg, hope to see you there. Troy has plans tonight, so no "magic" trail building tricks...

All are welcome to join us tonight or in the future. If your a 24 hour participant and wondering what surprises we are working on that might be incorporated into the "3 Chainringed Circus" your more than welcome to inquire...

More fun to be had building stuff and moving dirt at Afton Alps. Here is the plan-

Tonight: 5:30 til 8PM'ish, continue working the log crossing, slalom berms, or maybe start on the hole under the wate pipes (needed for clearance into entrance to single track).

Saturday: 8:30/9AM til 12/1PM (or later for those that want to work longer), continue working features listed above or maybe start cutting a connection trail (pending Afton approval). This section may be needed for the 24 Hour to keep the trails from coming to close together (concern for night riding/ blinding other's vision)...

Saturday Bonus: We plan on riding after trail work so BRING YOUR RIDE to get a lap or 2 in of the proposed 24 hour course... Team Ricco Bring it...

New Trails are open. The 24 Hour course marked with red poles/ orange arrows and a few painted arrows in the dirt where there are no poles or direction is questionable.

Please be patient, the trails are a work in progress, and probably will be all the way up to the 24 Hour event.

We'll be working the new sections tonight. Anybody interested in giving us a hand your more than welcome to stop on out...
Tentative Plan-
-Dug Out- assess current condition, work it
-Newly cut Singletrack- assess & groom
-Slalom Section- Maybe work another new berm
-Connector Singletrack- Maybe cut some trail

I might spend some time working the trails on Saturday if anyone is interested in helping out. Probably work the trouble/ eroded locations.

Rain or shine we'll be moving dirt tonight 5:30PM and Saturday 9AM...
-Cut new connector singletrack
-Cut new Berm#4 of the Slalom Section
-Maintenance on existing 24 Hour trails (new & old)
-Work on whatever else comes to mind...

Bring your rig, we plan on riding after trail work on Saturday...

Looks like work is really getting in the way. I don't think i can make it tonight.
If i can get out before 6:30 I'll be there. Otherwise i'am going to hit it on my own. Let me know if there are critical areas for me to work on . The trails are looking great!

Hey Bill,
If and when you've got time; the trails on the west side of the facility will need some raking and erosion control. I know the compression drops or "S" turns as some people call them need to be looked at. I'm sure they have washed out in spots from the rain.

Also, we plan on creating berm #4 similar to berm #2 (remove organics, utilize the natural slope with a slight inslope at the base for water flow). So, if you've got time and it's still not done when you're there, go for it...

The newly cut trails can always use some attention too... You know where to get the tools...

You'll have to check out the new stuff we created last Saturday... Afton Gully reroute... I think most people should like the change...

Thanks in advance for finding some time to help out... You know what we've got going and needs to be done... Go for it!

When were you thinking of making it out to Afton, I might be able to meet up with you either Fri, Sat, or Sun...

The rain is a little out of hand for moving dirt now. Trail work will be postponed to Saturday.

I may be working the trails tomorrow. For those that are familiar with the trail improvements currently in the works you can surely head out on your own time. Free passes are given for the work you do, plus a free lunch at the Chalet is a bonus.

There are other perks at Afton too, like having input into current and future trail designs... I know there are a bunch of people out there that would like to have input into trail design on top of just being a laborer for a few hours and here your ideas go on deaf ears... If you've got ideas, time, and like to move dirt, stop on out on Saturday...

Saturday Plan-
-Cut connector singletrack
-Create Slalom Berm #4
-Maintenance on new and existing trails (Western end trails)

John & I will be working tonight rain or shine.

The main focus will be the little singletrack downhill section leading you to the start of the re-routes at the meadows chalet (I can never remember the trail names!), it's the section with the "expert" sign posted that has the stairstep roots people are bypassing.

The other point of focus will be the new DLA shortcut leading to Whistler... How it's holding up, and scoping out another line for an alternate option for those that want to bypass...

I'll be working tomorrow night, and then doing a Team Ricco night ride (weather permitting). Saturday 10AM group ride/ trail review then trail work afterwords. Sunday- ride/ work as required...

Larry, you've gotta get some award for all the effort you've put in. Sorry I'll be on a plane tonight.

How about I bring you a six of your favorite brew for next Sat around 5:00 to say thanks for your work. If I remember your have had Newcastle each year. You want something else?

Hey Former Ex-president,,, Tomorrow ride after doing some trail work, on the bike by the time the sun goes down. I'll be out there by 5:30PM. If something changes or the rain in unridable I'll give you a shout... I'd hate for you to fight traffic out there only to realize the trails are in bad shape...

Jeff, thanks for the words of encouragement... I've just come to find that "moving dirt can be as much fun as riding on dirt"... We saw an opportunity to make a change and didn't wait around for someone else to do it... Hopefully people enjoy. Also, without Afton Alps Management support we'd of had a hard time getting anything accomplished... There is allot to be said for working on private land with supportive owners...

Afton trail improvements have only begun, but the amount of change is proportional to the number of people assisting and time invested...

We are looking for the next project, who out there has ideas and is willing to assist??? Fall is the best time to cut new trail...

Excellent trail work session last night... John and I went on a buff & shine mission... All trails are holding up better than exepected...

The new DLA shortcut is firming up, we also opened up the grass-around as an option. Basically all people will take the entrance over the log/pipe then either straight into the drop or a right turn towards the grass-around. Hopefully the arrows paint a clear picture of the options. We plan to have signage well in advance so that people are prepared to choose.

We also groomed and debermed the singletrack out of valley view ("expert" sign posted). It had some monsterous ruts from people riding the brakes... It is fixed and flows once again.

I also walked and worked the other newly cut singletrack and slalom section. The stuff is holding up better than expected. The rain helps make it more pliable for grooming.

Note-
Former Ex-President, if the t-storms roll in this PM then abort the mission. If no t-storms then vector your victor for Afton by 7PM Zulu.... Over?

10-4, I got a squawk from Farm Team Fast Guy/ LCR double agent... I'll dispatch a call at 6PM on trail conditions (if it rains) letting you know if it's a Go or No-Go... I'm sure we'll know this afternoon with the weather moving this way...

New lights??? He don't need any more speed... Just the Way-Less... ;)

In addition to our normal Thursday night (5:30PM) trail work session, I'll be working/ riding Afton tomorrow (Wed). Troy and I will be working the trails Friday morning also. If previous successful rain sessions are an indicator we'll get some good grooming in on Thursday and Friday morning.

Anybody interested in helping out or for those that don't agree with what has been accomplished over the past +2 months this is your final chance to show up and give us some help on the trails... We've been asking for help, but nobody from the 24 Hour crowd has replied...

That is alright... The trails are what they are, hopefully people enjoy... I know the people that spent ~500 hours building them do enjoy them...
