this afternoon i went out biking around looking for places to live next year--not even doing anything of any technical difficulty. i was out for about an hour just riding along and after scouring the first area i was looking in decided to head back towards dinkytown to look around here. for those familiar with the area you might know the walking bridge that goes over the railroad tracks between van cleeve park on como and dinkytown. i decided i would ride that for a little fun. coming down the stairs on the dinkytown side just as i finished coming off the last steps i somehow managed to slip my left foot off the pedal causing it to slam into my shin. this is the third time in just over a week or two this has happened to that shin, this being the single worst incident i think. every other time i was able to keep biking but this time i said f---it im going home -- it hurt :hit:

now i am sitting here with a string of band-aids along a path about a foot long on my shin. and to think i was suppsoed to be getting some sort of shin guards tomorow  i dont even know if i will be in any condition to use them this weekend

good job keep riding like a man. when it happens to me i just swear alot then keep going. It sucks the most when u hit it in the same spot twice:hit: .
The pedals on the P3 are insane wouldnt want a kiss from those fockers.
Also dont spend alot on race faces or anything just get some cheap soccer ones they work the same.

i dont know how similar the pedals on a p.3 are to those on my p.2 but i imagine they both pack a punch (i know mine do).

if this had been the first hit i had taken, i might have kept going but this was the third in a row, and definatly the worst of the three (makes sense when all it has to do is rip a scab off instead of break skin in some places).

i do have a set of old soccer shin guards coming down tomorow afternoon. they should do the trick as i dont need knee protection nearly as bad as i need shin protection. i just find it pathetic i shredded my leg the day before i got my guards and on a ride when i wasnt even doing anything dangerous. heck i rode for an hour and a half yesterday around the U dropping stuff and riding skinnies all over the place w/out a slip. now i am doing a simple road ride and i send my leg to the butcher shop :hit:

edit: to danimal, no they are the stock platforms that come on a p.2

hahaha, go ahead man...money well spent on shin guards can give more time on the bike. They are a time tested and proven design.

when/if i can ever afford to blow $50+ on bike armor i might do so. until then ill take my stock in free soccer guards that have already proven themselves protecting me from some rather nasty impacts of a slightly different nature. and i would bet they are lighter weight and less cumbersome as well. since i am not doing extreme DH or huge drops/jumps while freeriding i simply dont see the need for all the extra protection i might get from bike specific gear just yet :)

I did the same thing about a 2 weeks ago, little bunny hop not even 4 inches, but slipped a pedal and got a couple gashes. I just got some knucklebone shin guards, and they have proven them selves against my pedals. Plus they were only like $35, that's some of the best money I have spent yet.

the guy who was supposed to bring me my shin guards fell thro so i have to somehow make do until next weekend now. i made some makeshift ones today out of cardboard and socks but somehow managed to bash my shin before we even left the driveway for our ride. we still rode but i was @ 75% at best and when we got home it was nice and raw again in a cpl places :hit:

i really ought to just take half a week or so off and rest it but im too stupid for that :crazy2:
